I think since it says "3G" not "3 GB", they are refering to it being the 3rd Generation iPod-which it is.

If you look at the pics, on the left it says 'for the original iPod' with the appropriate picture and on the right 'for the 3G ipod' also with an appropriate picture.

3G refers to the generation - 1G was the original, 2G with the touch wheels and 3G is the latest and greatest iteration of the iPod.

The problem is that many people think it means 3 gb

They should have written either "3rd g ipod" or "new ipod" to make this clear and keep you from thinking

3G is a very common term... most people dont realize that thats what G3 and G4 means. Although Im sure that just looking at the pictures that one could figure out what that means.

It caught me off by surprise....And, no, most people will get a little confused. I really thought it meant 3 gigs.....Oh, well, they should make it more clear, for their sake..

Well, Apple may be bringing new computer users to the iPod.
It means that they would not know the difference between

Well Apple has been doing it very well by saying how many songs the iPod will hold in case the "new" users don't know the difference between G and Gb...
