I am a recent switcher from PC to Mac and have always used Print Master and Print Shop for printing things such as banners, signs, cards, etc. Now that I have switched to Mac I know these programs aren't made for the Mac. What is a good program to use in place of these?

Anyway, take a look at iWork. Pages "just" might suit you, but it's hard to say based on your description. $79, and is a complete word processing/presentation suite.
