Apple NAB Special Event This Weekend

Apple's special event at the National Associations of Broadcasters (NAB) will be held this Sunday at 11:00am PDT, 2:00pm EDT. MacRumors will be providing live coverage of the event via MacRumorsLive.com.

Apple is widely expected to introduce an update to its Final Cut Suite, along with a possible introduction of a new high-end product named Final Cut Extreme. ThinkSecret has also mentioned a possible display update at or around NAB, and believes the 17" MacBook Pro may be updated to include a high definition display.

Apple's displays have not seen specification updates for quite some time, although they did see a price drop last week.

I doubt we'll see a display update with the recent price drops. An updated 17" screen would be kinda cool, though. I wonder when Final Cut Studio will be released now that Leopard has been pushed back.

Pretty slick invitation,

New Displays? Would be nice as it has been ages since they were altered.

Then that is Mac OS X's biggest drawback - lack of hardware choice. And that is a HUGE drawback.

Most people probably don't care but I have been tracking some of my "predictions" from earlier this year.

There. Anything "sooner" is a win. Anything missing entirely or more than 2 months later is a loss.

A better question is since there IS a press event with Steve Jobs present,
what might he announce as "one more thing"?

Primary:
EMI content on iTunes

Likely:
Watermarked vs DRM format
http://www.macrumors.com/2007/04/02/...ence-coverage/
== CONFIRMED 6 of 12

Apple loseless format
HD 720i music videos

Less Likely:
iMac Quad with some music related software (Logic Extreme, Garage band 4 or something)
Apple BUYS EMI (they already own the Apple trademark free and clear)

At NAB, If anything i would've expected the 8 core announcement then. It is all about speed not so much about the money at NAB. Wrong time/place/audience.

it'll be something that isn't available yet....

I agree with the above poster, it'll be some cool product that won't be available for a few months. Getting tired of the promises, need products that I can actually use.

I really do hope it's not just Final Cut, I hope for ilife upgrades, something for us "poor" computer users.

Right on. N.A.B. is not some consumer show. It is a hard core broadcast convention. For people there buying a few $15,000 edititing stations is bargin basement. The X-Serve RAID is bought by the dozen at $14,000 a piece because it is an absolute bargin compared to other solutions. These guys could care less that a new iPod is being updated.
Expect FCS Studio and FCS Extreme. Anything more will be a bonus.

Then prepare to be disappointed. They are not likley to introduce iLife to a bunch of broadcast pros at a convention.

I hereby officially expect nothing. Absolutely nothing of interest. They will release the new suite of FC, probably, and it will be the best thing since sliced bread if you need that kind of thing (FCE is totally meets all of my needs).

After the disaster that was MW2007, and the "Oh, did we say Spring??" news from yesterday, my expectations are extremely low.

While I'm content w/ what I have now, I'd like to see updated cinema displays with better resolution and more inputs as well as Mac Pros w/ better graphics. As for the displays, I have a few questions: what's the highest dpi you can get into a display (regardless of size)? I heard the iPhone will have a 160 dpi display, but couyld go even higher. Also, anyone know what the max resolution a dual-link DVI connector van produce. Follow-up: any new video connectors coming out soon and (if so) what's its max resolution? Just curious.

There is no such thing as Final Cut Extreme. Apple will not be introducing a $10000 4K editing suite. The very idea is ridiculous.

Nothing of intrest to YOU. Those of us who have been waiting for FCS 6 for over a year would beg to differ.
Apple has many user bases to cover. It's like trying to feed a bunch of baby birds. While one is being fed the others are squawking that they are being ignored and want to be fed NOW.

I hope it is a blow away FCS demo. That would be awesome. Even though it probably will be followed by, "but it needs Leopard so it will ship in Oct."

HD resolution on a 17" screen would get pretty tight. The icons and fonts would be silly small like what happened on Sony's 17" laptop. Sony's was at 1920x1200 and not 1920x1080, but I still think it would be hard to use without Leopard's resolution independence.

And why is this? Can you elaborate?
Digital cinematography is on a fast track. It would make sense to get in early in the game and become established as a player in the beginning.

Sorry dude,
You are going to be still be tired of waiting.
NAB will focus om professional products for film and video. Software and maybe hardware.
So if you want for your poor wallet and folks, you are looking at the wrong place.
Keep waiting.
