Macromedia Flash 8 + Color Management

does anyone know how to set Flash to use a specific type of color management? I'm getting a lot of color variance between Flash and Photoshop/Illustrator. Is there a way to fix this? A preference or a plug-in of some sort?

Flash has no color management. You need to bring in your images with their profile to ensure color consistency. A good way to do this is to assign the profile in Photoshop(Edit Menu--> Assign Profile) to the image and then import into Flash. Most of the time if you use Adobe RGB 1998 for web images, when you save for web, the colors get desaturated. However, if you use the sRGB profile, the colors are preserved when you choose save for web and import into Flash.

that actually helps a lot. I've set the color profiles in Illustrator/Photoshop accordingly. Think it'll help match Flash drawings as well? Sometimes it's easier to draw the box (for example) and animate it with Flash than it is to draw it in Illustrator and import

You should be fine creating shapes from scratch within Flash since it uses RGB/Web Safe colors. If your document is in RGB mode in Illustrator and you use the RGB/Web Safe palette for your colors, you should have no problem importing either. How it looks in other people's monitors is a separate matter, your monitor may be calibrated to display colors accurately, but most people don't calibrate their monitors and as a result colors can be a bit off in some computers.

I can live with color variance from monitor to monitor. I just want to make sure #00CCCC (for example) looks the same no matter what app I've used to apply it. Right now I'm rocking 3 different shades...that's not working.

after messing with this stuff a bit more, I found the best profile to convert images to is Color Match RGB. With sRGB, you still get color variation going from Photoshop/Illustrator to Flash. Color Match RGB seems to work the best.
