Deleting Receipts?

I'm going though everything on my HD to try to delete some unwanted stuff and save some space...

I came accross a folder named Receipts in /library. The folder was about 192MB in size. Inside were about 170 .pkg files, many of which were only about 80KB in size.

Are any of these safe to delete? I thought they looked like where Mac OS X saves anything installed, like a back up.

I think it's also for the purpose of knowing what software is installed in case of upgrading.

So I should only keep the ones related to software I still have?
