New Touchscreen iPod Tomorrow?

ThinkSecret cites an unconfirmed source who believes that Apple may show the long-awaited touch-screen iPod tomorrow and ship the device alongside the iPhone in June.

ThinkSecret stresses that this information is otherwise unconfirmed, and sorry to dash hopes, but we have heard that this information was likely fabricated.

Update: ThinkSecret has since stressed even more the lack of corroboration:
Quote:
Updated Since publication, reliable sources have added that there will not be an iPod update this week.

this is very very unlikely to come true. My guess is the 6G comes around September or October.

I don't see this happening until Next Macworld or later, so that it doesn't hurt iPhone sales.

Perhaps this would be true after the WWDC. In September or something. I would want it to be released tomorrow or WWDC but it doesn't look like it.

I got happy for a minute, but then I did give it some thought, and it's true that it may still be a few months far off.
I'm looking to replace this 30GB black with something cooler!

Like others said, there is exactly a ZERO percent chance that Apple would release something like this before the iPhone for a lot or reasons including eating at potential iPhone sales and dedicating the necessary engineering and marketing resources.

I would think an iPod update with touch-screen functionality would come AFTER the iPhone is released.

i would never believe this until i actually saw it. even after seeing it, i'd think it were a belated april fool's joke on apple's part (everything's late from them recently).

A LOT of people would be buying one. And they are not necessarily the iPhone target demographic. I could see it coming but I doubt it. I would greatly appreciate it though.

They MIGHT pre-announce such a thing along with the iPhone (more likely afterwards, certainly not before). But they'd do it in conjunction with an iPhone launch event, not at some random low-key introduction. This would be just about the biggest iPod news ever, and they'd use to fan the iPhone hype, not slip it under the radar. I'd expect a press event--and probably the same one where they unveil the final iPhone.

There might be some other big iPod news tomorrow though, like... iPod AV Cable PRODUCT(RED).

Ugh, for a split second (as with all rumors) I believed this to be true until I thought about it.

I too doubt it, but it would be great if they did!

I do not plan on getting the iPhone, as good as it sounds I don't want to pay the huge subscription fee that there will surely be.

As such - the touch screen iPod will certainly be my next Apple purchase. Not sure I will get one straight away as there is nothing wrong with my current 5G iPod.

Look. There's probably no one here who would love for this to be true more than myself. My trusty 4G 40GBer just failed late last week, an apparent catastrophic logic board thrombosis. I'm looking at buying a new 5.1G to replace it, but then that blows my planned replacement cycle which had been to replace it this Fall when the new devices came out. Not much chance I'll get a $400 new iPod past the spousal awareness net while holding a 3-month-old iPod in hand!

So, I'd love a new iPod to be announced tomorrow, even if that meant I'd still have to wait another month to buy it. I can survive a month of ad-filled radio top-ten pop crap, but only if I can count the days down to getting a new iPod!

But, sorry. Not gonna happen. I just can't see Apple introducing a 6th gen iPod without a major media event. I mean, wasn't the moderately brighter screen 5.1G iPod announced at a media event? Wouldn't this be a major product change? Wouldn't Apple, at the very least, want to put a marketing message forward distinguishing the 6G iPod from the iPhone?

Nah. Breaks my heart, but it's not gonna happen.

Honestly, it likely stop me from buying the iPhone!

If it was like the iPhone, minus the phone.
