Santa Rosa-Based MacBook Pro 'Very Soon'... Next Week?

Gizmodo is claiming that a source has revealed that a new Santa Rosa-based MacBook Pro could be coming as early as next week.

While the site doesn't seem to have much faith in the next week date, they do seem to have faith that Apple will indeed update the line by WWDC. ThinkSecret has indicated that a MacBook Pro WWDC refresh was indeed coming that would include LED-displays.

Despite being an established tech blog, Gizmodo has been very liberal in the past about posting Apple rumors.

Wouldn't that bring the Macbook's graphics on par with the MBP's graphics then?

Until the new MBP comes out with even better graphics!

(Assuming of course the Intel X3100 with shared memory is as fast as the ATi X1600 with dedicated memory)

That's putting it mildly.

Although I love their sister-blog, LifeHacker, Gizmodo have shamelessly abused their readers trust in the past, making deliberately misleading posts to boost traffic. They finally lost all credibility with their famous claim of an upcoming Nintendo announcement that turned out to be an earnings report.

First Reviews of Santa Rosa Laptops

Hey, they're not macs, but it's an interesting first indicator of what to expect from santa rosa:

Sounds like a very evolutionary upgrade rather than anything revolutionary. My current C2D MacBook will do just fine at least until Penryn comes next year, then I might start looking again.

i agree. the only thing im curious about is the added battery life. i have to say that's the one thing im slightly disappointed about in regards to my C2D mbp. though i cant say i was expecting all that much.

it'll be interesting to see how much battery life the next mbp with santa rosa and led screens will get.

The GMA X3100 is better but it's still not as capable as the ATi Radeon X1600.

Too many X's...

I want my Santa Rosa based Mac mini now!

No, the dedicated X1600 is WAY better than ANY integrated solution, much less the Intel IGPs

i doubt we'll see 'em.

WWDC is too close for comfort, methinks. especially for LED based machines, that's a big thing™.

it's possible with leopard and iphone at WWDC that they might need to release new MB & MBP prior to that IF they don't use the LED displays.

Possible Specs for $2499 15" Santa Rosa MBP?

I just speced out a Lenovo 14" t61 for $2344. Think this is a possibility for the $2499 MBP?

-C2D T7700 2.4 GHz
-4GB RAM
-Vista Business [insert OSX here]
-Discreet nVidia graphics (quadro nvs 140m) [I'd hope for an nVidia 8-series]
-160GB 5400 RPM Hard Drive [maybe apple can toss a 160GB 7200RPM our way?]
-1GB Intel Robeson "Turbo Memory" Cache
-DVD Burner
-Intel 4965 AGN Wireless
-Bluetooth
etc...

If these are indeed the specs for the new $2499 MBP, I'd just buy it right off the shelf, no custom order required!

Will probably be close to that, except 2GB RAM and Radeon X1700M.

4GB of Ram is a Must for BTO MBPs. 2GB is no longer good enough if I plan to keep this computer approx 3 years.

Also, Same with a Beefy Videocard. Nothing over the top, but if this thing is going to last me. It should be something current. Even if its a mid range card.
