I just downloaded all of the updates and had already put all of the settings I like. In fact, I asked how to do some of that a few hours ago. I turned the computer off and turned it back on and I find everything just as it was when I first turned it on after the fresh install of my new disk.

why ??

Did you happen to change the shortname of your user / home directory name?

you mean the name of the little house when you open the finder ??

if so, yes

if not, then no

it's just that they named my user the way they wanted it and I tried to put it back to how it was

e.g. I had it Joe Smith for user name and short joesmith now they just had Joe for username and just joe for shortname. I put it back to Joe Smith for the user name and joesmith for the shortname and when I turned it back on it was Joe Smith, but the short name was again joe. I donçt know if any of this makes sense

but does this mean that what I had already done before changing the short name has all been lost ?? I mean the updates, apps, and all of that ??
