MacBook Pro Tomorrow (June 5, 2007) - Some Specs?

Based on all rumblings, we are very confident that MacBook Pros will be arriving in the morning (Tues, June 5th)... but the exact specs of the new laptops are uncertain.

However, piecing together various reports, here are the possible specs for (some) of the new MacBook Pros.

- 2.2GHz, 4mb shared L2 cache, 2GB of 667mhz ram, 120gb, GeForce 8600M GT 128mb
- 2.4GHz, 4mb shared L2 cache, 2GB of 667mhz ram, 160gb, GeForce 8600M GT 256mb

Prices range from $2000 for the 15" low end up to $3050 for the "ultimate" 17" model, which may be a retail store specific configuration. Apple's Back to School promotion is also expected kick off in the morning and offer up a 4GB iPod Nano (or $199 discount on other iPod) with Mac purchase. The iPhone appears to be excluded from this discount.

Unfortunately, more details aren't available. While parts of this report seem to be corroborated, these specs should be taken with a grain of salt.

Who cares about MBPs? We need more iPhone rumors.

I predict that no matter what Apple releases, multiple threads complaining about the specs will appear.

Why nVidia 8600 and not ATI HD2600?

Hmm..is the Nvidia 8600GT a major step up over the current GPU in the MBP's?

Don't see that as a restriction though. AMD still wants to make some money, don't they?

I would have expected the 800MHz front-side bus.

Edit: or is that different that the RAM clock?

Bad pun alert, weewoo weewoo!

Alright, back on topic: I think its pretty much a given. That MBP is looking like an awful bad deal with the MacBook revision, Apple needs to fix it ASAP.

Yes, that is different from the RAM clock. No, I don't get it either...

But if one company is giving you huge discounts and "working closely" with you on products. I'm pretty sure you are or they are going to force you to adhere to not buying from their competitors.

The nvidia chips are significantly faster.

Should be close to double the performance of the x1600.

It does include Santa Rosa. It is just using a slower RAM because the 800MHz stuff is still very expensive.

IIRC, you can stick slower RAM in and the chipset will compensate. It still may have a Santa Rosa chipset.

What I don't get though, is why they don't use 800Mhz RAM? Is it just too expensive? (Apple never seemed to have a problem with that in the past )

Apple... It just makes sense :P

The shipping time on MBP's in Denmark sweden and norway have grown, not an exact indication, but could mean apple is running out of stock. Wait time is 3-5 days now instead of 24 hours. (Though Sweden DOES have the baseline MBP shipping within 24 hours)

Could be. Although Intel is the largest maker of integrated graphics chips, so technically, nVidia is also a competitor.

I don't see this happening.

120 GB HDD when the BlackBook has 160? Rrrrrrright.

Only a .04 GHz upgrade? No Santa Rosa on the base?

I guess LED screens could make up for a new, non-Santa Rosa low-end MBP. But the hard drive can't be below the BlackBook.

This can't be the update.

I double-checked the specs of the current models and this is not really an update.

The CPU clock speeds are insignificantly different. The included RAM is doubled to 2GB at about the same price as the old model so that's nice.

The only real different, based on this article is the GPU. Is that really worth the trouble?

WOW. Awesome!

And sheesh, looks like I'll be "forced" go with the higher end model to get the 160 GB hard drive!
