My Brand New SR MBP is Sitting on my Desk Now

I just picked up a brand new, 2.4g SR Macbook Pro from the Apple Store in Buffalo. I'm presently using Migration Assistant to transfer all the files and here are the first impressions:

1. The gray setup screen is not uneven the way some of my friends older MBPs are. No light bleed on gray, but I'll check on black after the MA is done with its jazz. I'm concerned because it doesn't seem as blindingly bright as some of my friends', but this could just be because of the muted setup graphics.

2. Packaging the same egg-crate style. I kinda miss the old bright white flap on my PBs packaging. Only difference on the box is the sticker.

3. I humped it.

I'll let you know more when its up a purring. Thanks to everyone for indulging my threads these past few months.

no problem, i'll geekbench it while I'm at it and post that up as well.

I went for the upper deck mostly due to the vram and to insure longevity, thanks for all the replies on that post.

Oh, and first impression #4: The Macbook Pro logo below the screen is really shiny! Were the last revs like that? Its like a chrome color with a darker outer edge.

Great! I'm interested in knowing if the lid/screen has the same bad angle/tilt degree as the previous version or if it's more like the std. Macbook (or better)?

Posting with my new MBP right now

The screen is quite beautiful. Below the screen area where it says "MacBook Pro" looks different, but I could be crazy.

The trackpad seems to be a different color silver than the rest of the case now, but it feels initially a lot better than brand new trackpads (I liked mine worn in).

Okay, I'm at my office so I didn't have access to my camera's USB cord, so I had to use our crappy general purpose Sony POS. Below are shots of the logo (which looks different to me, really shiny) and the screen. THE UNEVEN LOOK IS THE CAMERAS FAULT AND THAT'S AS CLOSE AS I COULD GET TO ACTUAL REPRESENTATION. I had to focus on something with less light and then take the picture so that's why the screen looks almost blank. I'll post more tonight.

Oh, and the brightness...it wouldn't turn up at first, but now in Migration Assistant I turned it on full....bright as hell

I'll let you know how real world that 6 hours is as I start breaking it in.

40 minutes remain in Migration Assistant. Then profiler and geekbench.

Any other requests? (its a slow day at the office )

Did you go for the matte or glossy? I'm still unsure of which one to get.

Edit: if you have time - would you be able to run a 3dmark test?

are you going to bootcamp it? If so, could we get some 3dmark scores?
So are you saying the lighting is even? any sparkling effects?

Matte. Decent color reproduction was my aim from the start of my wait-a-thon (since January, stress) because I want to at least get close to proof if I'm away from my external monitor on business.

I'm not much of a gamer so I'm not knowledgeable of 3dmark so direct link me to the download and (if needed) instructions and I'll post the results.

I got mine too

Well... I bought my first mac today! So far so good... although I can see there are some settings I need to fix because I'm not used to everything. I ended up buying the $2499 15" matte screen. My windows laptop is looking really lonely in the corner of my room... lol

Well, I only ask to run a 3dMark test if you're going to run boot camp, as it's a Windows-only program.

When you get a chance can you post System Profiler info? I'm interested to see what WiFi card they put in.

Thanks in advance.

I'll be bootcamping by the end of the week hopefully (need to dust off my XP discs) and I'll post. I'm sure some gamer will beat me to it, but I'll get it done.

From the little I've seen (ie - Migration Assist gray background) the lighting is much more even. My only concern is an area where the dock should be that seems to be a slightly darker bar, any other new owners seeing this (whateverandever?) The sparkling will have to wait til its up and running (27 minutes).

25 minutes to system profiler. I'll make sure to get the wireless settings. (ps - I'm not much of a wireless afficianado, which fields should i mark out in photoshop to protect myself)

Any other requests?

It's listed as "AirPort Extreme (0x168C, 0x87)" firmware 1.1.8.5.

It's draft-N, according to the Apple site.

Whateverandever (Love Ben Folds by the way) -

Do you have a slightly darker bar across the bottom of your screen. Like almost unnoticeable unless you're anal retentive? Its about a half inch wide right at the bottom.

I'm not sure, I didn't really notice it, but after you pointed it out, it may be a little darker down there.

Another thing I noticed is that the LED for your iSight camera is now hidden behind the casing instead of having a hole for it to shine through.
