airtunes vs headphone jack

hey gang. sorry if this has been asked before, couldnt find an answer.
I just upgraded to a 2.0 macbook from a clamshell ibook. I hook them up to my stereo through the headphone jack, and i was surprised to find that the mac book is much quieter than the G3.

can anyone tell me if airport expres with air tunes would have a higher output than the headphone jack?
