Unknown 80's song
Okay, i'll paste here what i already wrote in another thread, to avoid further confusion:
Hello. I'm new to this environment, but it seems to be the only place i could find to get help with a similar situation. I've been searching for a song that could be from the 80's or early 90's, i'm not sure. The only thing i can remember about it is that the melody strongly resembles the intro from Bon Jovi's "In These Arms", especially the guitar accord heard between seconds 0:15 and 0:25, only with two extra notes (i'm guessing the notes are something like an F and an E, in this order). I believe the song makes use of a saxophone and the lead singer is probably female. This will most likely be a shot in the dark, but it's still worth the try... I suddenly remembered another part of the song (unless i'm mistaking it for a different song, but i'm looking for this one too!). This part makes the song more distinctive, and although i can't remember any of the lyrics, i'm now sure the lead singer is female and she sings "woh woh woh woh" two times right before (or maybe during) the chorus; the second time she sings "woh woh woh woh" is in a higher tone. Still know this won't probably do any good, but still think it's worth the shot. If you don't know that Bon Jovi song i mentioned earlier, i'll post the link for the YouTube video below (the guitar accord i was referring to is heard for the first time between 00:19 and 00:25 and repeated throughout the song). Bon Jovi - In These Arms: http://youtube.com/watch?v=1J9P6jD1WpY If anyone has any idea about the artist or name of this song, please let me know. Thanks in advance! |

Pat Benatar "Love Is a Battlefield" comes to mind.

Free Fallin' by Tom Petty uses those same chords 0:19 - 0:25.
iTunes link Although, it's a male singer and I don't know how anyone would not know that Tom Petty song, so this is most likely irrelevant.

Definitely sounds like Pat Benatar...either Love is a Battlefield like MacNut suggested, though I thought the guitar part sounded more like Shadows of the Night.

Sorry, it's none of those songs...
I'll try to be more specific about the small details i got: The melody i mentioned that resembles the guitar accord on that Bon Jovi song is not played by a guitar - try to imagine that guitar accord, only with two extra notes (an F and an E), but played by another instrument, most likely a saxophone. The rhythm/beat of the song is pretty much like the Bangles' "Manic Monday". And the "woh woh woh woh" parts, which are probably the most distinctive parts in the song, are not like the one on Benatar's "Love is a Battlefield", where she says "woahwoahwoah" fast and repeatedly; those "woh woh woh woh" parts are sung as if she was counting "1,2,3,4". Having no lyrics at all does suck, but i usually also suck at remembering them, i only remember the melodies...

The trouble with this game is that a saxophone can't play chords.

Ok...I'm really bad at identifying melodies, much less adding other notes into them...but the two other songs that have at fairly established woh, woh, woh pattern that I can think of are:
Self Control by Laura Branigan and I Get Weak by Belinda Carlisle. |

hmm?
the first song i thought of when i heard bon jovi in these arms was "hold me now" by the thompson twins. probably not the one you're thinking, it was early 80's, but there is a male and female singer, and also some "woh woh's" in there
good luck!

Nope, still haven't found it... I also thought it to be Belinda Carlisle, but it's not.
But i'd like to thanks everyone for the attention, it's nice to know there are still places where we don't get mockery and insults as an answer By the way, Phat Elvis, that's "wa wa wee wa". LOL! |

Quaterflash - Harden My Heart (singer is a Pat Benatar sound-alike, hence all of the Benatar guesses)
Sax riff leads it off - doo be do beee - do daaah - doo be do bee - waaah (repeat) Bit of a driving shuffle-rhythm track. "I'm gonna harden my heart (descending guitar riff) swallow my tears (guitar riff) I'm gonna turn - and - leave - you - here... " At the end the singer sings an ascending line on the 1 2 3 4 beat Woah - Whoa - Woah - Woah-o http://youtube.com/results?search_qu...&search=Search Wow. Was that ever a cheesy video. I blocked out that memory... There's another, live version. The singer Rindy Ross plays her own sax solo - that's slightly more impressive. D*mn. Why can I remember lyrics to 25 year old pop songs, and can't remember my wife's birthday?

There was a more recent female singer who played sax as well. She was a one hit wonder. I can't recall who that was at all. Any ideas?

No, it's not "Harden My Heart"... The "woh woh" part is repeated throughout the song right before the chorus, it doesn't appear only in the end, like this one. And that's not the melody played by the sax that i'm looking for...
I guess i'll probably let it go and hope to hear it on the radio again - that's what happened with another song i was searching for years, with only the melody stuck in my head. Oh well, that's what happens when someone tends to appreciate music for its melody and not for the lyrics... By the way, like i said in another thread, i don't think it was any Quarterflash song, or at least none of their songs featured in the Greatest Hits album (i assume the song would be there since it was a popular radio hit, probably even a one-hit wonder). |

I got this before I listened to the You Tube song
You know how sometimes you get an epiphany? It came right to me.
The song you're looking for is "Thorn in my Side" by The Eurythmics. The singer is Annie Lennox. Have a great day. |
