Hey,

i need a quick tip from you guys. We're starting a new office for our company and it's going to be Mac only. There will be approximately 10-15 people working there after a while (we're currently at 2;).

I need to set up a server for us for:
- web development testing (PHP5 + MySql, 2-3 websites, 5-10 users)
- file sharing (~500GB HDD)
- network collaboration (i.e. calendar, tasks, wiki)

So since we're be using Mac's the natural choise would be the Mac OS X Server (iCal, iChat would work great). But I'm not sure about buying a XServe or a MacPro, since they are very expensive (not that we can't afford it, just why waste money).

What do you think about buying a 1.8GHz Dual Core Mac Mini + Mac OS X Server 10.4 + 500GB external FireWire drive?

Interesting choice, but I'd say that only makes sense if you have a monitor to use with it already. If you don't I'd suggest instead the 17-inch iMac with a 2.0 GHz processor and the 500 GB hard drive option. It'll probably end up a little cheaper, plus you'll get the added performance of a Core 2 Duo instead of a Core Duo.

Also, you can do PHP testing and stuff like that perfectly well on Mac OS X Client. I do it on my own Mac ;)
