Help! I need help with my Samsung SCH-u620!!

Why does it show the phone number instead of the contact name in my text messages. It is hurting my brain figuring out who is texting me now. Is there anyway to change this?
 
my parents had this problem with their Samsung phones. Entries in the phone book that were the same area code as their phones didn't have area codes. This seemed to confuse their phone since the caller ID for all numbers has the area code. Once we added the area code, it was fine.
 
i have the area codes in it.... all my entries look like this 1-(***)***-****

Is that 1 messing me up?
