My harddrive was recently reformatted and i lost all my info without backing up. I still have music on my ipod, but my documents and photos are gone.

i was wondering if there is anyway to recover deleted items off of my simpletech compact flash card i use for my canon digital canon. I have seen some programs online, and was wondering if any of them have good reputions

I like filesalvage, which recovers files from any memory source. The price on the other hand is something I'm not sure of.

Both Sandisk and Lexar include photo recovery software on their pro cards. You can purchase the software independently but it costs about $30.

A few weeks ago one of my friends borrowed his parent's SLR and accidently formated the card. Rather then purchase the software independently we found a good deal on a 2GB lexar card and bought that instead. I think it was around $35. Basically we bought the software and got the card for $5. Not a bad deal. Imagerescue worked like a charm and recovered all of the recently deleted photos.

There's also a few other brands of software available online that a quick google search will turn up. Most will allow you to preview which pictures you can recover before purchasing the software.

It will not however recover photos that have been deleted and overwritten. You aren't going to be able to get every photo that you've ever taken on that card back; just the one's that were taken last.

If you haven't done anything to your hard-drive after reformatting it and didn't use the advanced erase options then you can still probably recover all your data directly off the drive. Take a look at Datarescue. It costs more (about $100 I think) and I haven't tried it, but I've heard good things about it on this forum. I believe it will also let you preview what files you can recover before purchasing the software.

And if the OP has done a low level format, there is a much less chance of recovering any photos...unfortunately.

Cardrecovery.com restored every single photo i have ever taken off of my CF card. AMAZING.
