New Display Line?
I saw the 23 inch Cinema Display come out yesterday, I also saw that it has an updated enclosure. I was wondering: When is Apple going to update the 15,17, & 22 inch enclosures? Any ideas?

I say July. The other displays are getting quite long in the tooth.

Sooner than MWNY
I don't know if they'll wait till MWNY. If they update the enclosures, up the resolution, hell, they can tack on another $100.
But it is pending, sooner than later I imagine. They've been having the upto $500 off deal for some time now. Apple usually likes to give some incentive to help get rid of old stuff right before the new ones come out. |

Not much different
I went and made a composite of the different display images from the apple web site. 23" on top, 15" on the bottom.
I think the images don't show the color too well, but the Apple logo is a little different and I think the 23" display is closer in color to the newest G4 desktops. |

Well, I wouldn't pay $1000 for an extra inch. I think the 17" is a good deal.

I have a more recent 22" (the 20,xxx one made so far)
The colors are actually exactly the same as the 23" very light silver (I had my old cinema traded in for a newer one) The picture from apple of the 22" is not only old, but taken with a bad camera, since it's lighter (and on newer models you have a very light grey logo) Plus the signal cable is opaque grey like that on the quicksilver power cord, etc. The one thing I was really upset apple didn't keep was the power button on the bottom bezel like on the standard cinema, it's a trademark in how you can tell if a picture is genuine or not [plus you don't have a big huge light blaring in your face!)According to apple, the HD (23") displays High Definition video, yet if I have it right, both models do since HD is such a low resolution. IMO on the list the 22" is still a much better value per pixel (or resolution, etc). The prices in the US: 23" $3499 [152.13 per inch ] 2304000 pixels @ 0.001518663 cents each 22" $2499 [113.59 per inch ] 1638400 pixels @ 0.001525269 cents each 17" $999 [ 58.76 per inch ] 1310720 pixels @ 0.0007621765 cents each 15" $599 [ 39.33 per inch ] 786432 pixels @ 0.0007616679 cents each More detail, if not enough up above (the 15" is basically the best "value" but which is the best in detail?) 23" has 100173.90 pixels per square inch [PPSI] 22" has 74472.73 PPSI 17" has 77101.18 PPSI 15" has 52428.8 PPSI Embarassingly, the 15" has half the PPSI as the 22" ![]() Now we go into brightness, if I remember correctly: 23" 200cdm / 350:1 contrast ratio / 160 degree viewing (both ways) 22" 180cdm / 300:1 contrast ratio / same 17" 200cdm / 350:1 contrast ratio / same 15" 230cdm / 300:1 contrast ratio / 120 horizontal, 90 vertical Anywoot, after rambling off a crapload of specifications, there are other things to note such as the smoother look of the new display (shrug) etc I guess you get what you pay for, but the 23" is still, in basic, very much more expensive for just 1" and 665600 more pixels (sigh) very long and complicated though. For professionals, the 23" will definately cast a huge shadow on the 22", and I bet that's apple's major plan. I hope this post actually has some use

I'd like to see a 19 inch LCD added. Rite now I think the 17 inch is the best deal but for FCP3 I think a 19 inch would be great but wouldnt kill my walet like the 22 inch or now the 23 inch ones would

I know its a boatload of cash, but if you are using a machine to make money, the pixels are worth it.
I have a three monitor setup, and it paid for itself as I've got a terminal session on one monitor, a BBEdit session on the primary, and my test browser on the third. I save at least 20 (billable) minutes a day not having to look for windows. That said, I too feel the pain (I'm self/un/employed) of wanting a 23" Cinema but not wanting to pay for it. I've got a desk with three CRTs, and 2 LCDs on it, and no space. I could chop that to 2 LCDs and one CRT if I got that new ubėr Cinema. If you aren't hugely style/space conscious, get 2 21" CRTs. If you are space concious, get 2 18" LCDs (still cheaper than 1 Cinema). Sadly, if you're a Pixel hog (I am), and a bit style conscious, that pricey Cinema display screams 'buy me.' Once you've had the real estate, it is very hard to go back

Correct DPI for Apple LCDs
Hi All,
There seems a lot of figures talking about Apple's LCDs DPI or "dot pitch". So I thought I'd add my figures which unfortunately show less than any others I've seen but I belive are accurate given available info. Cheers Daniel |

The city on the 23" looks to be Hong Kong, w/ the building with the x pattern perhaps being the Bank of China building-- though I could be wrong. I've only been there once.

It is HongKong. The Bank is a good give away, along with the harbor and mountains. Not many places like that.
