List of iPhone Questions for New iPhone Owners

Hey guys,

We're going to try a little experiment. For those users who aren't buying an iPhone on the day of... what questions do you have about the iPhone that you want answered?

We'll compile all the questions into a mega-list and post that list into its own thread so when iPhone's start getting delivered, people who buy them can reply and answer what questions they can.

So, try to just post questions you want answers to in this thread, and try to avoid any other side chatter.

Can the iPhone be used as a modem to hook up to and run a laptop?
If you had service higher in oomph than EDGE (like 3g), can you say how slow it is in comparison? Jump off a building level, or tolerable?

Will Apple Care be available as insurance against damage. If so, how much will it cost?

Did you pay an activation fee?
Did you get any discounts like military, student, or employer discounts? (And if so, how much and what employer, as well as what proof did they require?)
Did you port your telephone number from another provider?
Have you ever been an AT&T or Cingular customer before?
Which additional features (text messaging, if not included, data plan if separate and optional, insurance if offered, etc) did you choose?
Are you contractually obligated to features or a particular plan, or can they be changed whenever?
Do you have any scratches or smudges yet?

can the keyboard switch between qwerty and alpha numeric when typing? like on the wii?

How's the speaker quality?
Which cases fit in most docks?
If you have an invisibleSHIELD, does it affect the sensitivity of the screen? How does it look with the invisibleSHIELD under a hardshell case?
If it's already broken, how did it break?
Are the 3rd party apps good?
Is the battery life as good as Apple has said?
How long does it take to charge?
Is there a way to turn the accelerometer off?
If your talking with the headphones with the small microphone inside and there is a lot of background noise, how do you get around that?

Edit-I'm kind of worried this thread is going to pile up alot in the next 10 days, with questions being skipped over, once the phone is launched. Perhaps locking this thread, then unlocking it with 1 or 2 days before launch would be a good idea. Perhaps keeping the numbers of posts here down, so people questions can be answer faster, once the phone is launched.

Can the keyboard layout be changed to Dvorak? Any evidence of early scratching? And, yes, any details on wireless plans would be very nice, although I guess they'll be released with the launch.

iPhone is probably sim-locked, any chance that it can be unlocked?

Can the iPhone data connection settings be modified so that it can be connected to other mobile service provider?

For the super fast cell phone texters, can the keypad keep up with quick presses of keys, or is there a laggy delay before the input is displayed? If you've ever used a Motorola Razr, you're familiar with this lagginess.

Several things I currently use my Treo for, that I'd *really* like to know whether the iPhone will support:

* DUN (Dial Up Networking): as one poster already asked, can I use my iPhone as a modem for my MacBookPro?

* Keychain: will my Keychain port over, or what security do I have for all those !@#$%^& passwords I need?

* Remote: will my iPhone be able to serve as a Bluetooth controller to click through my (PowerPoint/Keynote) presentations?

* Will there be a timer, so I can clock off 4 minutes to ensure my morning tea doesn't become acid in a cup?

I *can* switch, but answers to these questions will really be deal makers/breakers...
