Yeah, I just noticed this too. The Apple Knowledge Base listing what's changed doesn't seem to be up yet though. And it doesn't look like a very compelling software upgrade.

Adds RAW image decoding support for the following cameras: Panasonic DMC-LX1, Panasonic DMC-LX2, Leica M8, Leica D-LUX 2, Leica D-LUX 3, Fuji S5 Pro, Nikon D40x, and Canon EOS 1D Mk III.
A number of people were asking for this, and I'm sure will be well pleased.

The best thing about not being around my Mac during the day is the ability to let everyone else play guinea pig on software updates

I have a torrent running which I do not want to interrupt, so it will probably have to wait a few days for me

One of the disadvantages of growing the platform. For a while there in the 90s we were all competent and intelligent. Slowly we've been de-evolving into the cavemen you see here.

GUYS

just found something interesting...

in 10.4.10 a few new Displays has been added under
/System/Library/Displays/Overrides/DisplayVendorID-610

More specifically 14 of them, where 4 are really interesting:

And these 4 are:
DisplayProductID-9c6a
DisplayProductID-9c6b
DisplayProductID-9c6c
DisplayProductID-9c71

which all are for iMacs, excerpts from the files:

9c6a:

<key>DisplayProductID</key>
<integer>40042</integer>
<key>DisplayProductName</key>
<string>iMac</string>

9c6b:

<key>DisplayProductID</key>
<integer>40043</integer>
<key>DisplayProductName</key>
<string>iMac</string>

9c6c:
<key>DisplayProductID</key>
<integer>40044</integer>
<key>DisplayProductName</key>
<string>iMac</string>

and lastly 9c71:

<key>DisplayProductID</key>
<integer>40049</integer>
<key>DisplayProductName</key>
<string>iMac</string>

These files/displaydefinitions are NOT present on a 10.4.9 system!

venturing in the new realm of double digit updates... feels kinda weird

but i hope this means that maybe they will support Tiger a bit after leopard is out, since its such a widely used OS

My guess is that its main purpose is future compatibility (like Universal apps only work with the 10.3.9 and up, Core animation apps may only start up with 10.4.10 and upwards or something like that)

Mac OS 8.6 is still supported (a 10 year old OS), I think Tiger is gonna be around for a while.

Weird? I had to take to my bed. Except I couldn't rest on account of being unable to reconcile 10.4.10 with 10.4.9. I mean, shouldn't it have been 10.4.09?

I thought this should be done after the update?

Yeah, we've had 6.0.8, 7.5.5 (with 3 updates to that!), 10.2.8, and 10.3.9. Now we're to the first x.x.10. With Apple's 'double-dot' scheme, it's not really unexpected, as each number is a separate number, not a simple decimal progression.

As for support after the next release, if 10.4.10 is still the current when Leopard comes out, we'll probably see a 10.4.11, and that's it. That's the way it has been so far. Only one update after the new OS; usually to bring a few of the new OS's under-the-hood changes back. (For example, there is lots of software that requires "10.2.8 or later" or "10.3.9 or later", instead of just outright requiring 10.3 or 10.4. We'll probably see that. We'll see software with "10.4.11 or later" instead of outright denying Tiger.)
