iPhone Guided Tour and Site Redesign

As I just accessed the iPhone Website, they have just totally redone it (as I literally refreshed because the page wasn't loading fully).

See now at http://www.apple.com/iphone/

It includes a guided tour for the iPhone.

I didn't see arn online so I don't know how to notify him about this.

A hand model, right???

Imagine telling that to someone you meet.

I met a guy who was a professional guitar player, wouldn't shake your hand.

I'll be this guy says, "Sorry, can't shake, I'm a hand model... for Apple."

That would make it cooler, I guess. Apple... now even a male hand model is cool!!!

I saw a lady who had to be the hand model for Heather Lockleer? in a hair commercial. Heather had to lay on the ground sideways and hold up her head. Apparently, the hand model has to spoon Heather to be the arm and hand holding up her head.

What a weird world

No *****? I was asked to be a hand model by a gay guy a few years back worked for some advertising firm in Atlanta. I said sure, cause the money he offered was right, but I told him I had to give it up after a few days b/c of some of the creepy stuff he had me do. One add for CK had me tugging at some waify guy's boxers. I'm not homophobic in the least, but we all gotta draw the line somewhere.

One thing to note....

In the beginning, when he first demos NYT on Safari, we see aqua-style (not the matte gray style like we have seen on the iPhone previously) drop-down menus on the site, as well as the Flash content (NYT's media player).

This might suggest that he is scrolling through a screenshot taken on a computer.

When he returns to NYT later, we see the matte gray drop-down menus......and the Flash content.....odd.

Apple has previously said no Flash, but this is puzzling.

On the other hand, when they show Yahoo!, there's a blank spot where there is normally a Flash ad.

So I would still guess no Flash, but this video is inconsistent...

What I just thought of...

Can you imagine what it's going to be like to the non iPhone at&t user to get a simple phone call out with all of that congestion on the network when these buggers go live?!?!?!

Hell, sometimes its hard just to get a call out during rush hour on some networks...

I'm doubting there will be more apps below the first 12. Yes, there is room for more, but I think it's just room because of course there will EVENTUALLY be more. I hope for more on release, but there will of course be more than 16. I bet to vew more, it'll be a flickah down on that menu, or something like the Wii has. And Hopefully all the wedgietestes will get grouped under one app (wonder if the little drip effect will be used when adding new apps)

This is, what... The third major redesign since January? (And they just redid it last week! Although this is a significantly larger change.) I liked the previous one, better.

The video made everything look so easy, but I noticed the time never changed on the iphone, so it could have easily been a video and not actual use.

Seems to be a simulation as the hand typing never changes the position of the fingers. They must have placed the hand image over a simulated iphone, its not the real deal.

It might be authentic... if you watch the large version, you can see the reflection of the hand on the surface of the phone.

Amazing how this one walkthrough is starting to change people's minds about its capabilities.

Especially since it hasn't changed anything that we knew about the iPhone, except a few minor clarifications that were already assumed.

I find it quite amusing

My notes from the video

These are the notes I made when watching the video...

ringtones - preset only, can't use songs. How to add new?
That's been discussed here already. If I've bought a song I don't want to pay again to make it a ringtone. I can make any MP3 or MIDI file a ringtone on my Treo 650 (2-1/2 yrs old) so I hope they add this soon. Charging for ringtones is so damned lame.

email - 15m 30m 1hr - no 5 minutes!
I have my Treo and mail.app set to check email every five minutes. I do hope they add a 5-minute option. Yes it eats the battery faster, but I need info faster. This one really bothers me.

no voice dialing
I hope they add this soon. This is a major missing feature (missing near as I can tell).

locking if lost?
I didn't see a way to lock the phone, requiring a password when turned on. I don't use this myself but many consider it critical.

wallpaper, not desktop picture
This struck me - they called it "wallpaper" - the Windows term - and not "Desktop Picture" - the Mac term.
