An Apple iPhone FAQ confirms an earlier rumor that VPN will be supported on the iPhone:

The FAQ also reveals some other answers, such as:

- 4 Digit Password can be used to protect iPhone

- Photo of the iPhone Dock with bluetooth headset charger pictured

Finally the iPhone's specs page is updated with more detailed capabilities:

Video formats supported: H.264 video, up to 1.5 Mbps, 640 by 480 pixels, 30 frames per second, Low-Complexity version of the H.264 Baseline Profile with AAC-LC audio up to 160 Kbps, 48kHz, stereo audio in .m4v, .mp4, and .mov file formats; H.264 video, up to 768 Kbps, 320 by 240 pixels, 30 frames per second, Baseline Profile up to Level 1.3 with AAC-LC audio up to 160 Kbps, 48kHz, stereo audio in .m4v, .mp4, and .mov file formats; MPEG-4 video, up to 2.5 Mbps, 640 by 480 pixels, 30 frames per second, Simple Profile with AAC-LC audio up to 160 Kbps, 48kHz, stereo audio in .m4v, .mp4, and .mov file formats
What comes in the box:

- iPhone
- Stereo Headset
- Dock

- USB Power Adapter

iTunes 7.3 (not yet released) is required for the iPhone.

Ask a stupid question but what benefits would this offer? I get a work phone from time to time but don't do anything particularly exciting apart from make calls.
Thanks.

but i must say, adding a cleaning/polishing cloth in the box is a nice touch on Apple's part... maybe they should add that to box of all their computers also...

I wonder how much confidential stuff Apple is getting done while all the media/sites are looking the other way at the iPhone...

What good is complaining about it going to do? All you're managing to do is reducing the enjoyment for the rest of us.

People complaining about iPhone news - get a grip. Go outside and get some fresh air.

You'd rather play guessing games on when iWork 3 is coming out? Or how many MHz the next MBP update would be? Come on now, this iPhone malarky is far more interesting right now. It will blow over in a few days.

Thanks.
This allows business people to connect to their company's networks, and also allows college students, like myself, to connect to our networks. Also, this is going to be one giant ass box with all that they are stuffing in...

I think it is cool for apple & ATT to be releasing these sorta kind of updates during the week. I have a feeling something special will happen friday.

I know. It has been like a mini version of the song "12 days of Christmas"....

Marketing wise, this has been genius. IMO.

I agree, it has been a great move on apple's part. Now like the whole world's eyes are on them in Friday, let's hope they don't blow it. *Knocks on wood*

- USB Power Adapter
What would be uber cool is if this works on the do nothing USB port of the apple TV.. that why if you buy the Bluetooth kit or an extra usb power adapter you could have two places to charge the iphone instead of one...

upstairs.
on the far side of the house.
underneath all the office junk.

Hmmm...

Considering we already have reviews, I doubt there'll be any major update... maybe a software update that adds IM or MMS?

Could be, I actually expect apple to do so and add things like games and maybe MMS. Who knows really, but I do feel Stevie has an ace up his sleeve...

4 New Widgets auto-download when you activate it?

I would not be surprised if Google Office type apps where one of them...

Ms. Pacman free download would kick ass too!

For people wanting to access their internal networks (e.g., for email or internal web sites) while away from work, VPN provide for secure access. For many businesses, this is the only way they allow remote employees to access their networks.

Many people and companies have their internal network firewalled so that computers out there on the Internet can't access computers on the internal LAN. In fact you'd be dumb not to do this. VPN allows you to access those internal computers from the outside via n encrypted link.

With VPN I can securely access the computers in my office from home. With VPN the iPhone can access a company's internal servers.

The VPN is really important for many wireless networks and accessibility for other people. Definitely good news.

I like the iTunes 7.3 as well.
