Here is the 10.4.10 usb harddrive fix

For those having problems mouting usb harddrives with 10.4.10 this solves it. The problems lies with the 10.4.10 usb drivers replacing them with the older 10.4.9 drivers returns your harddrive.

1 download pacifist
2 download 10.4.9 combo update and 10.4.8 combo update if the 10.4.9 update fails.
3 open the 10.4.9 Combo Updater with Pacifist
4 in pacifist go to /system/library/extensions
5 install IOHIDFamily.kext
6 install IOUSBFamily.kext
7 reboot and enjoy

For those of us who don't see a USB Harddrive problem, what does this fix? :confused:

Also I don't understand your instructions.

You mean open the 10.4.9 Combo Updater with Pacifist? And how is doing anything with the 10.4.9 Updater going to fix anything in 10.4.10? These instructions make no sense to me, a lay person, not a techno programming geek.

The soloution is for the many people including myself that since upgradeing to 10.4.10 have no longer been able to mount usb harddrives, this solution fixes that by reverting to the 10.4.9 drivers for USB.

I have tried to follow your description, tried booth the 10.4.9 and the 10.4.8 combo. Are you sure this is all I have to do?
Does anyone that have made this work have USB Prober, there is a tab called Kernel Extensions. This is my information in that tab. Have I updated to the right versions?

com.apple.iokit.IOUSBFamily 2.7.5 1024 KB 512 bytes 0x905100
com.apple.iokit.IOHIDFamily 1.4.11 3072 KB 2048 KB 0xa05300

How did you ever figure that out? I'm been trying everything going crazy since the last update. I hope this one works.
A quick question though, when you install the new files, does it matter if you overwrite the existing ones, or should you not overwrite the existing one? (There were some that didn't exist in my system files and didn't ask me to replace any files when installing, but almost all of them I it did ask me to replace or not)

Success!!

After trying babyjennifer's way (no luck for me), I looked at my original 10.4.10 download and saw that it was dated on the 19th...but on the Apple site, their update was dated on the 20th. I figured that maybe they re-released 10.4.10 so I downloaded another copy and installed it again. After restart I did a permissions repair and lo and behold, my 2 HDs and camera work now!!

I hope this works for everybody else.
 
i'll download the combo update again and post a screen shot of the files you need to install, and yes your replacing the installed ones.

I replaced the drivers with the older 10.4.9 drivers as described in this thread and my hard drive was still not recognised. Even worse after a few days my MBP would not boot up. When I went into safe mode there was a message stating that there was a problem with the drivers I had replaced. I reinstall the 10.4.10 drivers and everything is back to normal again.
