Black screens going up at Apple Stores

Here at Easton in Columbus OH, Apple Store employees are putting up black screens over the windows to hide what they are setting up inside.

They started at around 2:05 and they are almost done covering all windows. Guards at the entrance are turning people away telling them that the store will reopen at 6pm.

I was really hoping for a big yellow post-it note.

doesn't look like Easton has a line at all, huh?

i'm in Columbus, stuck at work. was planning on going to the AT&T store down at the South Campus Gateway, figured Easton would be a mess.

now that i look at the pic again, there are tops of several heads at the bottom of the picture, like they are sitting on the curb. and there is a black "rope" there?

There are probably still under a hundred people here. The reason you can't see the line is because I can't put photos up without people's consent, and I happened to get lucky with a shot with hardly any people in it.

My girlfriend and I are 17th and 18th in line, been here since 7:40am

The line is decent already, but I think people getting here at 4PM needn't worry about scoring an iPhone this evening. Good luck to all!

EDIT: here's the Easton Meetup Thread... http://forums.macrumors.com/showthread.php?t=317470

Here in Cleveland, people are shoved to the side so if you looked dead on at the Apple Store, you wouldn't see them. There's like 40 people there and like 10-30 people at the local AT&T (Woodmere)

Lol, there won't be any new iMacs today. ;p I'm sure this is just Apple wanting to build even more excitement and anticipation.

Maybe they're just trying to hide how much inventory they have?

It's like Macworld! I can almost feel the impending disappointment!

BTW, store.apple.com hasn't gone down yet. There's no presentation or anything, so maybe it won't have to be down as long as earlier reported.

Did anyone notice the commodities market dropped today? Gold and Silver drops but oil went up, obviously because of people driving to get an iPhone.

True, they usually move in tandem. Must be the extra fuel needed for travel

You guys are pretty ridiculous waiting in line for these things. By the end of the weekend, you'll be able to just go in and buy one.

What are they going to do with all those iPhone ad blankets after today?

Maybe a collectible?

Hey kids, when you open your iPhones, remember to take a deep breath of the wrapping plastic smell.

ahh, amazing, isn't it? I hope.

I'm confused

Is this 'iPhone' the same thing as the 'ROKR'? Hasn't it been out for a while?

If so, what's all the hubbub about?
