Apple has posted a PDF of the iPhone User's Guide.

Agreed but would you feel that way if you were like number 25 in line? On the local area links, I checked in New Jersey and the word was that there would be 100 or so at the AT&T stores.

In Hoboken, they slowly worked their way to about 20, then announced there were no more 8 GB phones, only 4 GB ones left. They were taking orders and saying you could have the 8 GB one in the mail. Since that was the one I wanted, I left with nothing and decided to just read about it and let others gloat.

Someone in line also posted earlier and said an AT&T woman came out in the afternoon and said they could handle lines all the way down the block. As there were about 70, they aren't even going to make a fifth of that.

Now I have to go back to the thread earlier for NJ and rip the person who gave such bad information.

Sheesh!!! Doesn't look like you can put this thing into disk mode to copy stuff to/from it like you can with an iPod.

At least the manual doesn't mention it...

Page 48 has this bit which is rather interesting:

"iPhone supports the following email attachment file formats:
.c, .cpp, .diff, .doc, .docx, .h, .hpp, .htm, .html, .m, .mm, .patch, .pdf, .txt, .xls, .xlsx


.docx and .xlsx?!? Aren't those the filetypes from Office 2007 that we Mac users can't open on the Mac (yet) because Microsoft hasn't developed a converter yet?

NeoOffice includes the ODF Add-in for Microsoft Word. The ODF Add-in is an open source project that makes it possible for NeoOffice to open, edit, and save files in the Office 2007 Word format. This feature is not available in current Mac versions of Microsoft Office and will not be available until Office 2008 for the Mac is released.

Yea I am aware of the Microsoft converter which is in early beta and doesn't work very well with complex files. It is interesting that Apple (on their own? working with Microsoft? with NeoOffice?) developed something that views docx and xlsx on iPhone, but isn't available on Mac yet...

So you're sitting there with the phone charging on the computer and it rings.

Can you answer it? Sorry...have to go to the mouse...find the drive and eject...wait for it to process that...ok unplug...oops! They hung up.

Seriously, being able to put the phone in a mode where it can ring but you CAN'T pick it up an answer it...bad idea. Some of us geeks would be able to handle it, but can you imagine the public at large dealing with that?

But who says this is how it would work?! in one of the iPhone orientation videos I watched on Apple.com a couple of days back the guy actually says that if you're syncing content to the phone and a call comes in, the syncing stops so you can take the call. I would expect the same to happen if the phone could be put in disk mode.

It's a phone first and foremost and so that functionality must take precedence over everything else I guess.

You know what - even my Motorola SLVR goes into disk mode when I connect it to my computer so I can copy stuff to/from it. I bet your phone does too

Oh well - guess we'll have to wait for someone to connect their shiny new iPhone to their computer to see what happens! I'm sure someone will post back to the forums with details at some point

Which sounds exactly like an iPod without disk mode enabled. When you enable disk mode on an iPod you get the scenario I described. Hey, I'd love to be wrong, but I can't see why an iPhone would work differently than an iPod.

But yeah, it would be great if they could change that some day!

Why THE HELL did Apple not include this manual within the box of every iPhone? This must have been one heck of a big oversight. WOW! All they give us is a small super abridged version of the user manual.

Did anybody buy the Apple Bluetooth Headset? I completely forgot to look at it or ask about it, is it available? Apple Online Store says 2-4 weeks, but it is saying that for everything iPhone.

Probably because it is rather large (124 pages).

This way everyone can DL the manual and read it on their computer. Saves paper, shipping costs, and the box can be smaller.

Besides macs don't need manual. Everything is easy and as it should be. I've actually purchased a lot of products, including routers, that include only .pdf manuals.

I downloaded it just for the fun of it.... a lot of people must be on apple's site, because my connection speed was slower than usual... I'll go look at the iphone at the apple store in a few weeks when it will be less crazy in the stores...

Why not read it on your iPhone?

Is there something like the "User Guides And Information" folder like there is on my Macintosh HD?

did anyone notice the part about the sim card? it mentioned that if you wanted to lend your phone or need to send in for service you can take the sim card out. so assuming other users can use their sim card...
