Nagging remaining balance msg

So I was lucky enough to get the GoPhone rate and no contract for the phone.... but it keeps sending me a message after every call explaining that the last call cost nothing, and my remaining balance is $49.

I dont need to be reminded of this after every call, any idea how the hell to make it stop?

There is no way to disable this, I used to use GoPhone and got rid of it for this reason, the good thing is that you get used to it happening, the bad thing is it really doesn't get any less annoying.

The girl at ATT I talked to said she has already received a bunch of calls about it today....

hopefully they will give us the option to disable that mesg sometime soon as it IS extraordinarily annoying and not necessary.

And I DO NOT want to have to go to a ATT store and transfer to the contract service just b/c the phone keeps anooying me with a balance msg

I am getting so irritated by this message. If you're trying to make a string of calls, they get interrupted 10 seconds in and you have to dismiss the message before you can continue.

I'm on a Treo, and I've been searching and posting on every board I can find for a way to stop it. On the Treo, it comes in as a "Network Response" popup, not a text message. So if you make a call, and move on to something else, the message pops up, you dismiss, and it sends you back to the dialer or launcher screen. So annoying.

Here's what I've discovered: The message is in response to a SIM initiated request for the account balance, it basically sends out the *646# or *777# request automatically after any network activity, including GPRS and SMS. So the trick to blocking would be to block those numbers from being dialed or sent. Accidentally, I discovered that the messages do not appear if I have DUN configured and enabled, after I have made a connection to my tethered laptop and disconnected again. The messages are disabled until my phone soft resets or I disable DUN.

any SIM hackers out there?

DUN= Dial Up Networking?

Can you explain a bit more how you managed to silence the popups?

Wow, I can imagine that would be a real pain.
Also prepaid or pay as you go plans are a pain in the ass also.

not only is it a pain in the ass, but it really cripples the iPhone.

For example, you cannot set your email client to auto-check every 15 minutes, because that uses EDGE and will generate a popup every 15 minutes. The popup will cause the iPhone to chirp and vibrate, exactly like a new email would.

Apple could make a software patch in 10 minutes which would add a toggle to the settings control panel to silence these notices. Their customers would notice and appreciate it bigtime.

Sadly, they probably won't, and it will be some l33t hax0r from irc.osx86.hu #iphone who will come up with the cure.

AT&T won't allow a fix and neither will apple. The strategy to get people into two year contracts is definitely working. Applegets a cut of the contract so they are for the nagging. I bet they're doing everything they can to get people on the contracts since the phone is getting hacked more each day. The prepaid people will have the option to go to tmobile voip hopefully!

Really? I've updated my software but it still gives me the annoying message! Of note though, it only does during the day when I am using my anytime minutes. At night on the unlimited it does not give me the message. Anyone else still getting these? I'm on a pick your plan, plan.

You will get it when you use your anytime minutes through the day because those minutes subtract from your remaining balance. Since the night minutes dont take away from your remaining balance, you wont get one.
