I cannot check my work email on my iphone, so what I have setup is for all my work emails to be forwarded to my gmail account. This works, however when I go to view the email on my iphone it shows up as only a mime-attachment file. If I view the forwarded email on the web it shows up fine. What the deal. I checked my work forward prefs and it doesnt give me the option to forward as an attachment... so that is not it. Anyway it shows up fine on the web on gmail.com.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

This is my greatest problem too. I've had MIME unreadable situations before -- but even my TREO 650 could read my work emails.. Most business email accounts use 'forward as attachment' as the default protocol and it's unchanegable by the user. So you can try asking your email admin guy at work to change the protocol to forward the email itself.. But mine said there was no way. So I guess this is one checkmark against Apple in an otherwise flawless new product.

Unless anyone has experienced this: After you've used your headphones provided with the iPhone on a call and then unplug the headphones -- the next call you MAKE (not get) you won't be able to hear the caller thru the earpiece in the iPhone itself. Very repeatable bug on my iPhone 8GB. Anyone else experience this?

The mime problem has actually been my number 1 complaint with the iphone. The OS X Mail client and Outlook express can read mime attachments without incident. The iPhone really needs to be updated to include this capability.

My boss, who is on AOL, routinely forwards me emails. All of the emails he forwards show up on the iPhone as mime attachments and I can't read them, making my $600 email device somewhat useless (if it weren't for all of the other cool features - oh, and making phone calls).

I am going to submit this to feedback@apple.com. You two should as well. Perhaps they'll listen. Or maybe they won't! But at least I'll feel like I'm being proactive about it.

mime

I have a brand new iphone 3gs and have exactly the same problem; does anyone know if this has ever been resolved? It is hard to believe that a problem like this could persist for several years without someone creating a solution.

3.1 screwed up email!!

This email problem has started, for me at least, with the software update of 3.1 or 3.1.2. All forwarded email messages have since become unreadable after upgrading to 3.1 or 3.1.2. I was one of the people who were having phone lock up problems in addition to email problems since upgrading from 3.0 to 3.1. After all the trouble, I spent a lot of time downgrading to 3.0 again to regain functionality of the phone. I have just upgraded to 3.1.2 a few hours ago and email seems screwed up again. I hope the phone locking up will not also be a problem.

Same problem on phone

I have the second generation IPhone and I did the same thing to forward my work emails to my Yahoo mail account. The mime attachments worked just fine until the last upgrade.

Any solution in sight?

AOL Mime-attachments

I just sent this to feedback@apple.com:

When I receive a forwarded email from an AOL user the body of the email comes in as a grayed out mime-attachment without content. I did not have this problem until my AT&T iPhone’s OS was upgraded to 3.1. Upgrading to 3.1.2 did not help. They come in just fine on my desktop computer. I see that there is a long history of this problem and firmly believe that it is time for Apple to do something or, at least, say something about this issue.
