I tend to just pop my iPod/iTunes onto random, but that aside I've been listening to quite a bit of Neil Young and British Sea Power this past week.

Coincidentally, I've been listening to a couple of friend-produced compilations too. All good stuff.

Shut up! It is so!

And I think it's totally cool that Tegan (of Tegan and Sarah) does backup vocals on the track "Borne on the FM Waves of the Heart".

Boards of Canada - Geogaddi (on vinyl ).

Very scarce and difficult to get hold of on vinyl. I've had it on CD for quite a while, but it just sounds almost completely different on Vinyl.

I've also downloaded Radiohead Live at Glastonbury 2003, which is a pretty outstanding performance. Battles - Mirrored has also made it's way into my playlist, along with Tom McRae - All Maps Welcome.

Betty Curse, Paramore, Chimaira, and Every Time I Die are the only things on my playlist. I can't hear out of my right ear that well because of the Sounds of the Underground concert a few days ago, so I'm not really in the mood to listen to music with one ear.

My folks go away soon so I'm borrowing their record player (decks? whatever they're called. I've no idea ) and going through a few classics. They've literally got a small army of records. Human League, Bowie, ELO will be my friends soon.

I've been slowly building up the best bits of my dad's record collection (40 years of awesome albums and rare soul/funk singles, along with the odd bit of 80s electronic dance).

This week it's mostly podcasts with a bit of the new Tegan & Sara, the new New Pornographers, and a smattering of older electronica (Amon Tobin, Air, the Books) thrown in for flavor.

All in all, it looks to be a good week.

Okkervil River - The Stage Names (awesome album, not as dark as Black Sheep Boy, but good new direction)
Laura Veirs - Saltbreakers (love it, not quite Year of Meteors, but damn close)
Ben Harper - Lifeline (killer album, love it)
Sum 41 - Underclass Hero (overrated, total Blink/Green Day rip-off but worse, end with a wannabe Billy Joe acoustic solo track, throw in a few bland Enema of the State songs, and re-write Fat Lip as the opening track and you have the entire CD)

Plus tons of others, the new Feist, the new Tegan & Sara, Decemberists, Tilly and the Wall, some old school Andrew Bird's Bowl of Fire, Amelie OST (always a fave), Kyo, then throw in a pinch of radio-friendly stuff (new Bravery stuff, Paramore, etc.)

All About Eve and Natalie Merchant are both still lighting my candle. I'm pretty sure I'm trapped in the late 80's but it's nice here.
