HEY,
DOES anyone know whether or not the 15" powerbook supports 4.1 or 5.1 stereo sound...im deciding which speakers to buy and didnt want to w3aste money on stuff that would be pointless...thanks

No, currently the only ones that have 5.1 audio support built-in are the G5s. If you don't mind lugging around an extra component, you could get a Sonica or whatnot from M-Audio.

Built-in is normal stereo sound. Pretty sucky, I know, but if they go directly to Optical out on all the machines they'll be a step ahead of PCs.

Check out sonica's website, they have options for both 5.1 and 7.1 Digital surrond sound using only a usb port. It will work fine since Apple upgraded its DVD player to not convert the sound. So you can get true 5.1 for your PB, with a $90 device.
