Firewire Network Help

Ok, I have my two computers and I have an extrenal HD. I want to transfer data from both computers at same time to the same hard drive.

I do not want to do it via etehrnet because I'm working with video and it is realy heavy data.

Any comments?
 
Can't you just connect the 2 computers with a Firewire cable and share the external drive the same way you'd do a normal network? It's been a while since I used Firewire like that but I think it would work.
