Check out the screenshots of where steve is showing the new iLife. There appear to be new icons for Keynote and a chart looking icon.

I looks like we're finally getting a new version of iWork.

Finally, I don't have to use excel.

Checkboxes in spreadsheet cells -- it seems so obvious.

I'm looking forward to getting my fingers on Numbers to try it out.

As rumored, Apple released iWork '08. In addition to updated Keynote and Pages, Apple introduced a new application to the suite for spreadsheets called Numbers. iWork '08 is available today for $79.

Keynote
-New text effects, transitions, themes
-Instant Alpha: take out the background of a photo
-Smart Builds: create your own animations

Pages
-Modes for word processing and page layout
-Contextual format bar
-Change tracking (compatible with MS Word)
-140 Apple designed templates

Numbers
-"Spreadsheets for the rest of us"
-Intelligent tables, readable formulas
-Can make gorgeous looking spreadsheets quickly

I know we have to buy the all new iLife for $79 but if we currently have iwork will we have to buy that too? (considering it came for free when you bought the mac) or software update?

I guess time will tell the full extent but current reports are that no macro support.

I think I'll be purchasing the new iWork as soon as the store comes back up. Been waiting for this since January.

I am really excited about Numbers. I do imagine VBA support isn't there, though. Just a random guess. Time will tell.

iWork has never been free with a new purchase, iLife has. Did you just get these mixed up? Anyway, you will probably need to purchase both products.

That's not a random guess. That's an educated guess, and almost surely correct. The question is: what else?

I don't care if the user interface is "pretty" until I'm finished with my work and showing it to others. I spend a lot of time in spreadsheets, and I'm willing to change my software and my habits (which menu choices and keystrokes and procedures I use), but it's the opportunity to be more efficient or effective that will convince me to switch.

Hope that Numbers allows what's known as worksheets in Excel lingo. AppleWorks was useless for me as it couldn't open Excel files with multiple worksheets.
