iDVD compatable discs

I just bought some writable DVDs that iDVD doesn't recognize. What kind of DVDs should I get that will work. I can't find the specs anywhere. Are there even different types of DVDs I should be looking for?
 
You want "DVD-R". Not to be confused with "DVD+R"

Where the ones you bought "DVD+R"?
