My iTunes Widgets from Apple

Apple has released a web widget that allows users to embed their recent iTunes Purchases, iTunes Reviews and iTunes Favorites into their website, blog or social networking profile. The new service is called My iTunes

iTunes is giving you an effortless way to keep your friends up-to-date with your favorite music, TV shows, movies, and more. My iTunes widgets are simple, self-updating add-ons for your web page, social-networking profile, or blog.

Use My iTunes to share your top reviews, favorite artists, and new music, movies, and TV shows from the iTunes Store with anyone who visits your site.

To start, you need to log into the iTunes Store. From there you click "Enable My iTunes" from your profile and check of which features you want to display:

• My iTunes Purchases - The most recent music, music videos, TV shows, and movies you’ve purchased from the iTunes Store.
• My iTunes Reviews -Music, music videos, TV shows, and movies you’ve given a 4- or 5-star rating on the iTunes Store.
• My iTunes Favorites - The artists whose music you’ve purchased the most from the iTunes Store.

The end result is the following Flash widget:

Click on Get HTML Code

.Mac Gallery is pure AJAX (aka "Web 2.0", as His Steveness called it,) and thus works just fine on the iPhone.

This iTunes Widget, however, does not work on the Jesus Phone.

Yeah, the widget is flash.

It appears to be 1/2 and 1/2. The "Carousel" bit looks like a whole lot of Flash to me...

Have you actually tried a .Mac photo gallery on the iPhone? It displays a version tailored for the iPhone; ends up looking quite similar to the iPhone Photos app really.

I hadn't until you mentioned it, just viewed it in Safari on the desktop. Pretty slick, even if you lose some of the higher bells and whistles from the full version.

I still find it odd that Apple is using Flash for this iTunes widget though.

It works pretty neat. Now when you take a picture with the iPhone you can choose a web gallery to upload it to. Very cool. Also, when you select a webgallery to view on your iPhone, it looks alot like the photo section of the iPhone. You can flip through the picture thumbnails, then tap to select a picture to view full size. Very nice.

After you get your my itunes page up on safari or firefox or whatever then you make it how you want it to appear then there's a button to the left that says copy code .. i think .. it the top button of the two choices.. you click that then at the end of the url is your userid.

Both iLike.com and Last.fm have similar functions and not tied to purchases at the iTunes store.

That is pretty cool... looks like a good way to learn about interesting new music from people, but some of the websites out there are absolutely awesome for this. I guess apple paid attention when sites like Last.fm were bought by CBS for 280 million...

Cool, I guess -- but also limited. I wish it wasn't so focused around iTunes purchases. It would be cool if we could set it to most played songs and/or bands on iTunes. Or recently played.

I've bought a lot from iTunes over the years, but my purchases there are NOT a good representation of my overall music tastes.

I'll stick with my last.fm widget instead....
