try a search, there have been many good recommendations I just don't know offhand because I don't use any. Also the general recommendation seems to be, if you have broadband, try a bunch form versiontracker.com and see which you like and which has the features you want.

thoth is definitely the best nonfree newsgroup software i have tried.

MT-Newswatcher is the best free alternativei have found

if you are used to windows clients for downloading binaries, the learning curve is a but high, but definitely worth it.

Actually the best news reader I've found is Mozilla.

It has the best support, and although it doesn't decode uuncode very well. Its a great system.

what about NetNewsWire? no one mentioned this one. it has a free Lite version that's great too. and the pay versionhas blogging for a bunch of APIs and some other cool stuff. or am i just high on glue and this isn't even the sort of thing you guys are talking about? in anycase:

I like Hogwasher a lot. It's got a sixty day free trial, but after that it's just too dang expensive. Like fifty bucks! Sheesh... what are they thinking? I'll be going back to MT-newswatcher in 22 days. If Hogwasher was $20, I'd buy it in a heartbeat.

Pan is very good but you'll have to go round the houses to install it. It requires X11 and needs to be compiled from fink.

It is very good though and free.
