Mesotherapy

Mesotherapy uses a cocktail mixture to reduce fat. Complaints are that it feels like a bee sting. It is injected into the mesoderm layer of the skin. A new way to get rid of fat. The cocktail used is not approved of by the FDA. The cost is ~$500 per treatment usually over a 10 week period according to a investigation done by WCVB TV. They put the cocktail in to a test tube and within 10 minutes it dissolved the fat. The question was is where does the fat go. The doctor said that it is used by the body. So far no long term studies have been done on its long term efficacy and side effects.

The doctor that they interviewed for the segment said that he won't treat a person unless they agree to a diet and exercise regiment. The treatment has apparently only become popular recently, so that is the reason for no long term studies. The belief is that the body learns to burn up the fat. For the story they followed subjects for 2 months, definite results were demonstrated.

My hope is that they will start some clinical trials of this treatment soon. What we need is some actual scientic data. The results subjectively look promising, patients are happy.

If something is too good to be true, that is the time to step away.
