Has WD's reliability improved since the early '00s?
For years (mostly in the late 90s/early '00s) I bought consumer grade WD drives because that is what BB/CC/CUSA sold and I didn't know about places like Newegg. Inevitably these drives would fail...thankfully while on warranty, if you can be thankful about a drive failing. I switched to Seagate, which, knock on wood, held up beautifully until I didn't need them.
I'm happy w/ Seagate, but WDs bench much faster, specifically the Caviar SE16 and RE2. How is the reliability on these drives. Are they going to last me 3-4 years as a video editing or boot drive or can I expect them to die in 1-2? |
