iPod Shuffle to go (RED)?

Appleinsider claims that Apple is preparing a (PRODUCT) RED version of the iPod shuffle as early as next week.

Apple previously introduced a RED version of the iPod Nano. Each sale of the Special Edition iPod Nano donates $10 to the Global Fund to fight AIDS in Africa.

Cool. I guess that somewhat confirms no significant update to the shuffle.

This wouldn't surprise me, and the "early as next week" means it's coming at the event.

Would be cool, although I still wouldn't have a need for one...

Looks to be about time to retire my first gen shuffle. Even if they don't change any of the specs, I'll get to at least double my memory. Ahh, a worthy upgrade.

Suhc a great cause!!!

Woohooo!!!

The shuffle is going red!!!!! I got myself a red nano. And absolutely love the cause and the radiant color. Makes me feel good that something positive came from buying my nano.

Pure red is my favorite iPod color. I'd love to see an iPhone--or that mocked-up widescreen Nano--sold in red.

And a red Shuffle would tempt me even more than the orange one. I do NOT need one! But... they're so tiny...

I hope this is true, I love (Product) Red and want to support them. Apple makes it a lot easier to do so with these iPods.

I'd like a RED iPod, without it actually being coloured red.

Well that would, at least, be somehow ironic!

I know there was a huge debate originally about this (nano), but really, why don't you just donate the money you would spend on an iPod?

I think the shuffle will also see a 2GB update, but there will be at least two models; the high end will be colored black.

I wonder if they'll introduce 2GB and 4GB, or 1GB and 2GB. I bet they'll stick with 1GB, lower the price, and add a 2GB for $89 or so. From what I hear with NAND prices dropping (though just last week I thought I heard of a shortage?), even $89 seems like a lot for 2GB. But what do I know.

Someday I'd like that "left-chin" to go away, so that only a square front remains. I doubt the case will change until September '08, though.

a lot of gap's (RED) shirts actually aren't red, but i wouldn't expect it for an ipod product. i'd kind of want one, and i think i'd get it.

why don't people just donate $20 to an AIDS charity instead of spending $85 on something that only sends $10 to the charity?

if you're going to buy an $85 shuffle anyway, why not buy the one that donates part of the revenues to charity? sure, it'd be great if everybody just took out their checkbook and donated a bit to charity, but people don't. in addition, there's more to the (red) campaign than just raising money. things like raising AIDS awareness around the world. but if you want to donate $20 to an AIDS charity, more power to you.

Well, because I am, first and foremost, a dork, I thought that I'd read a little too much into the red shuffle anouncement.

1.) While $10 for a nano doesn't cut too much into the bottom line (is probably more than offset by making the product more desirable, good publicity, and tax credits), $10 off of $79 or $89 would be significant, and a $5 donation would be a bit small (but doable).

2.)Hmmmm, could everything be shifted down (like a shuffle that fits into the space between atoms?) and the nano gets lobbed in two lengthwise and becomes the new shuffle, hence the red version. A smaller nano (I think pico has been mentioned) would be a better competitor, especially priced at under $100. OK, so maybe its not too likely, but if the shuffle becomes more nanoesque (i.e. a screen), then that could better explain the red.

3.)While this IS certainly NOT going to happen, what about something the size of a nano's screen with the entire screen being a touch wheel. I suppose it would take up too much processing power and cost too much for a shuffle (plus, your finger would obscure the screen), but if they are coming out with a big all-screen ipod, than how about a tiny, postage stamp one (speaking of which, how about a postage stamp that plays music. We've already got those musical greating cards).

4.) Shuffle earphones at some point? Anyone?

5.) Shuffle tooth. Plays through the bone.

6.) A colony of shuffle bacteria that work in tandem (although a cold could be really loud).

7.) Beaming music directly to your ears from a far away device.

7.b.) How about beaming from the future (hey, we could finally get the beatles on itunes)? The Past?

and now that my minature nano/shuffle seems logical by comparison I will hit you with the ultimate/uber/convergence/singularity of all ipod/apple/computer/electronic/technological/human endevors...

IPOD SOCKS !!! "They shuffle while you shuffle around the floor" (plus, they now come in red)

I've been looking around for an iPod Shuffle, because I've starting riding my bike again. A red shuffle would do it for me.
