Apple IS Offering $200 Credit For Customers (With Caveat)

I just called Apple and got a $200 credit. They are offering price protection for any phones purchased "10 Days before 8/1 and after" (I phrased it like that because that's EXACTLY what the rep told me, and I had him repeat it twice).

Obviously this doesn't cover those of you who stood in line, but there it is. Also, just a warning, when you call Apple, expect a hold time of nearly 20 minutes.

Mods - I felt this info deserved its own thread, but if not, my apologies for starting a new thread.

Its absolutely ridiculous that they offer you any refund whatsoever if its limited to that time frame. The product has been on the market for only 2 months!!!

How can they completely screw everyone who ponied up for them at launch?! This pathetic.

I feel PARTICULARLY screwed because I bought a 4 gig model. Not only is my iPhone already discontinued after 2 months, but now they offer double the storage at 100 dollars less than I paid!

WTF!!

Sounds like they are being generous. Apple Store Online stated 10 days from the date of shipment. Walk-in Apple stores have a 14 day price protection.

iInteresting. I wouldn't be at all surprised if there's an unwritten policy to pretty much give people the credit if they ask for it regardless of purchase. There will be many more who don't take advantage than those who do, so Apple still makes out.

Just curious, but I bought a 4g ten days ago (by choice: I didn't need the 8, as I like my 30g iPod). What do I get, if anything?

When you buy a new to market item on the day it is released (not to mention stand inline for many hours for it) it comes along with certain risks. If you aren't willing to accept that, then don't buy items when they are first released.

I really don't get how people think they are being screwed.

Not Giving Credits

I called Apple directly, and the store where I bought it... and they said NO to ANY credit after 14 days. Mine is less than 1 month old, but over the 14 days... so I have a hard time believing that this is an Apple policy. Maybe some are getting it on a case by case basis.

Call Apple directly. I had no issue with my rep. He didn't even flinch. Specifcally said they offer price protection and I'm just barely under a month in ownership.

Edit - Sorry, didn't see that you did call them directly. Call back. Tell them others have been offered price protection. It doesn't make sense that they'd offer it to some but not everyone.

I did call they directly... they said NO. And since I bought from a store they couldn't even look it up.

Hmmm...I wonder if it's something only for those who purchased online? That wouldn't make any sense. I'd try again, dude. I got them to refund the $200 on mine and a friend I ordered it for around the same time.

I'm waiting till tomorrow. Seems that its hit and miss what each apple rep says is "policy". My hunch is its at the discression of supervisors right now instead of a company wide policy. I'm not gonna call and pester em but I'll take the cash if they offer it.

Just called the store where I bought my 4g (which I'm very happy with) on August 25th. They told me to bring in my receipt within two weeks and I get $200 back. So my iPhone ends up costing me $200. I'd say that's pretty damned good.
