Why did you choose MacBook over Pro?

Hey guys!

I'm stuck between Macbook and the pro, I like being able to max out the macbook, get 2 software packages and the 2 year warrenty for $2000, instead of just picking up the lowest end macbook pro.

So I'm curious: How many of you own a Macbook? And why did you choose the macbook over the pro?

Not directly answering your question, but I have a Macbook on my shopping list rather than a MBP. The reason is that I have a new Mac Pro at home so I don't need the power of the MBP. Instead, I value the lower weight of the MB (2.31kg) against the MBP 15" (2.45kg) and the smaller size of the 13" screen to fit in my bag.
 
it was the extra 500 pound, and size that put me of. if there was a 13 inch macbook pro i would love that just the right size all im missing really is the graphics card i wish it had something more capable but form what i've seen of leopard i sould get a little boost in preformance.
 
I think you guys need to admit that the white macbook matched your iPod better than the aluminium pros. Apart from being lighter and smaller (this more portable) and more affordable for people :D
 
Yep, my Blackbook does everything I need it to do. With 2GB of RAM, it's super speedy even when I'm running CS3. When I need more screen-space I use VirtueDesktops or hook it up to an external monitor.
 
I was going to buy a top MBP as both a replacement for a wintel desktop and a mac iBook g4.

In the end I plumped for the lowend Macbook and a new Al iMac 24" which pretty much come out near the same money (10-15% diff in price)

The laptop is really only used for surfing, mail, and the odd video conference when im away from home, usually very little work is done on it. its my everyday machine.

The imac 24" is my work machine, and it makes work a pleasure.
 
1) The Macbook is smaller than the Pro. I need a light notebook for my travels.

2) Pricing. The Macbook is cheaper than the Pro.

I have done the same thing. Well I've got the macbook and will be buying the 24" iMac in a month. The iMac will be for the serious work, CS3 ect and the Macbook will be for taking to uni, to my parents and the rest of the time ebay, emailing, surfing. I use it in the mornings in bed alot when I don't want to get up just yet. :p

For the price of a MBP you can get a macbook and the low end iMac.

I just picked the 2.2 15" SR MBP yesterday at the Apple store. I spent about a month in limbo. I was really trying to decide between the new high-end 20" iMac and this MBP. The Macbook was kind of an afterthought but still an option.

The reason the MB was an afterthought was, the MBP has a FAR better video card, Santa Rosa platform (800Mhz FSB instead of 667Mhz), bigger screen, higher RAM capacity (4Gig max instead of 2) and more professional aluminum look. (I am not a PRO yet, but I graduate college this December)

It's still up to what your needs are and what you can afford.

I got the MBP and I don't see myself ever regretting it and wishing I just went for the MB.
 
1) Price - I couldn't afford the Pro

2) Size - I'm taking it to Uni and also just took it to Australia on holiday. I wouldn't wanna do that with anything bigger.

3) A Pro woulda been a bit of an overkill for what I do on it. Garageband, surfing the net, schoolwork etc.

but/ for number 3, I am looking at Logic studio or Logic 8 express now that they are more affordable and am wondering about whether I should have bought better specs. I'll most probably just up the ram to 2gb like they recommend and then I'll only lack the graphics power they recommend for Mainstage.
 
The specifications are extremely close to eachother - sure, the MBP has a faster FSB but you're not really going to care unless you're a power user. If you want to game, the MBP is far better (unless you just play WoW), the MBP has a lot of small bonuses, but it's quite a bit more.

If you're like me, and you're a student user who's just interested in OSX, iLife, iWork, etc., and maybe play a bit of WoW on the side... the Macbook is perfect. :)
 
The MacBook is already far more than I need. I also like the design more (plastic = great wireless), the price, the size ... I simple don't need or want an MBP at all.
 
i would also add that im not getting a macbook pro till its quad core and the screen is sorted out. This macbook is more than enough till then hopfully for next christmas the manufatorers will have mastered led backlights, bigger SSD's and intel Core2Quad for notebooks.
This plus that currently SR can take 8GB of ram that power in a macbook pro will be the spot for my second year in college.
 
I ordered a Blackbook (which should come by tomorrow <Crosses fingers> ) instead of a MBP mainly because of the difference in price. I don't need the faster, stronger graphics card anyway, or even a 15" screen (I only need a computer for schoolwork and learning my way around a new OS (OSX, that is).

I originally chose a Pro, but the first versions had issues so i returned it and got the MB.

Now i wish i had the MBP so i'll be buying one over the next few months.

A blackbook is 150 bucks more expensive for the colour, you realise that right?
 
Another selling point for me (along with the much lower cost) was the user replaceable hard drive. I could safely get the default refurbished configuration from the Apple Outlet and still upgrade to a good-sized hard drive later without having to completely take my machine apart.

True, but it's really not that hard at all. I usually do it in about 6-7 min total.
 
I've always wanted a macbook pro, but for the moment I can't put the money down on it because I know that my macbook is more than enough power for me. I rarely if ever go over 40% on the processors and I have a dual screen setup which I've grown to love so right now is not the time to buy for me. I'll buy when this little machine starts having trouble chugging out the amount of multitasking I need. When I do upgrade it'll be a 17" macbook pro!
