USB on 12" iBook G4 not working

the USB on our little ibook isn't working. the ports provide power (ie, light on mouse works) but that's it. O/S is 10.4.10, it's up to date. reset the p-ram, no change

any ideas ?

is there a way to rebuild the usb drivers w/o an os re-install ?
