Looks like the screen issue has been resolved. Good news.

It's pretty clear that Apple changed the pic on the retail box so that it's easier for distributers and stores to identify touches with bad screens vs the new ones with good screens.

That's interesting. Anyone else have a Touch from this week that can help with this? and I've been debating on buying one, but I've been unsure because of the problems. Is there a way you can tell which week it is from before you buy it? like on the box somewhere?

Please tell us what has changed. What picture indentifies a "good screen" iPod touch?

Touches made from week 36 and 37 have Corinne Bailey Rae on the front, whilst the week 38 ipods have Macy Gray (although some are still using the Corinne box).

Is that the only way to tell is with the box art? Or is there like a number on the side of the box where you could see what week it was made in?

The serial numbers for the defective units began 9C737xxxx

9C738xxxx should be good ones

Got mine today. 9C738 serial, Corinne Bailey Rae on the Box. No screen issues that I can see.

is it just me or is something not right here.
week 38 is this week right??
this week began on the 17th.
If people in china were making iPods last week with defective screens and now this week they started making them properly, how have apple managed to ship the "38 week" iPods all over the country in 4 days??

Does a "38 week" iPod mean it was esembled in week 38??

If this isnt the case and the iPods where made more than a week ago, then Apple must have known that the iPods they were shipping where defective??

Ive got a 16GB touch reserved for me at my local apple reseller (UK). I really hope when I go to pick it up tomorrow that its a "week 38" model.

PS, this is a better pic of Macy, in fact, she looks much less attractive than this, but, she does have a beautiful and unique voice.

I don't know how Apple does it. Some manufacturers do the week code for distribution, others do it for the actual assembly week.

It's also not that uncommon for an extremely hot, high demand item to be air shipped for the first few weeks until they catch up with demand.

They could have built the iPods in China on Sunday, put them on a plane, and gotten them to the United States for distribution on Monday seeing as China is a day ahead of us on the calendar.

true! so it seems unlikely that any of the week 38 models will be in the UK ):

Fedex two or one day shipping. You have 48 hours to make them. You have a staff of many. Begin.
