I've decided to move my iPhoto, iTunes, and movie libraries from my iMac internal disk onto an external drive, and am thinking that a hardware RAID enclosure with RAID 1 mirroring would give me some redundancy against a drive failure. I have an offsite backup at work, so the RAID redundancy is a convenience feature rather than a backup feature.

I've messed with the OS X built in RAID, but you can't seem to be able to move the RAID volume to another system without losing the secondary volume until you reboot. I'm hoping a self contained external hardware RAID box will enable me to plug and play between systems, or maybe plug into my AEBS and share between systems. I'm also hoping I can get one for $200-$300 without drives so I can add my own

Has anyone got a recommendation for a self contained hardware RAID enclosure?

TIA
