Free Steermouse equivalent?

Does anyone know if there's freeware/open source software that works similarly to Steermouse? I'd like to reprogram my mouse but paying $20 (about the cost of the mouse...) seems a bit much. Thanks!

I'm curious - why the PM's rather than share with everyone.

(I've paid for SteerMouse and consider it money well spent so no need to PM me )

So I'm guessing there isn't one? There seems to be a ton of open-source drivers (e.g. for printers @ linuxprinting.org) and was hoping there would be a mouse/keyboard equivalent.

Edit:

It's only $20. Well worth it too I might add.
