Dual 2GHz G5's to Ship?

At least two users have had their credit cards charged for their Dual 2.0GHz G5 orders with one claim from an Apple representative that they will start to ship "on Thursday or Friday", which would bring Apple's shipments in just under the (self-imposed) wire.

Apple originally declared that PowerMacs would ship in August, and reiterated this claim earlier this month.

There have been multiple sightings of PowerMac G5 1.6GHz and 1.8GHz machines across the country at Apple stores and CompUSAs. Supplies of these machines appear to be solidifying.

Please benchmark it with PS7Bench (best we got so far) with the new Photoshop patch....

Im getting anxious for their coming!!! Ever since ive tried one, its without any doubt the fastest computer that I ever seen or used. And its so beatifull!
 
Don't get too excited!

I had an unposted transaction on my CC for a few days, big enough to obviously be from Apple. I checked today and it had disappeared and the money had not been charged :-(

I called Apple and they said that it probably needs re-authorising and that there wasn't a problem. Shipping is still on target for before the 1st Sep or before.

Personally I'm not convinced. If they requested the money then surely they should have been in a position to ship or at least put my order into being prepped for shipping. I reckon the rumours with problems could be true and I don't expect to see my system for a few more weeks.

I'm an edu customer BTW.

A couple of other problems have put a bit of a downer on the G5 too. I was planning to run VPC and finally dump the PC I use. Well we all know what's happening there. I expect M$ to have long fingers to pull out.

Also, my MOTU PCI-324 card won't work because of the new PCI-X standard. MOTU are prepping a new card (424) but are only allowing existing 424 customers to upgrade, despite my break out boxes working fine with the 424 :-( Not only that but they won't even sell the new 424's on their own!

Behaviour such as this is going to really hurt Apple and G5 sales so go sign it if you want to help out.

I just checked my credit card and my order status...bleh...nothing's changed. Mine's not slated to ship until 9/2 though. I'ma keep checking throughout the rest of the week!
 
so a few Apple stores have the 1.6 & 1.8GHz models in? i haven't been to my closest Apple re-seller yet, but i wonder when we'll get any G5s down here? 😕
 
Ordered a 1.8 G5

I was planning on waiting for an updated 15, but it looks like I got convinced to get the new G5 desktop. Played with one at the store and it just blew my pants off. I placed a CTO for a 1.8 GHz machine, and it says that it will be shipped in 4 to 6 weeks!!! Ah well, I hope it'll ship with Panther and bluetooth kb and mouse 😀

Shucks (as we don't say over here in Britain).

I was one of the people who alerted Arn, but it turns out that my G5 might not be en route (or even close) after all, due to a cock-up by the credit card company.

I phoned them to check that the money had actually gone, which they confirmed. Way hey, thought I, because Apple only deduct money once it's shipped.

However, no shipping notice from Apple made me a tad twitchy, so I phoned them. Turns out the money is in a holding pattern (as it were) and will stay like that until the dual G5 ships (they can keep it 'pending' for 30 days before having to reapply).

A phonecall to my credit card company produced the same response as before; the money has left your account. When I asked them to really check this, and do a fair old rumage (in view of Apple's comments) - Oh, no! Lo and behold, all was confirmed merely to be pending.

Gits.

Anyway, sorry for the false alarm. I'm still down to get one from the 15th Sept onwards (HE customer). Pah.

I'm sure that some of the G5s will be en route this very week (that's what the lady at Apple implied without actually saying it, if you see what I mean), but clearly mine ain't one of 'em.🙁

Seems like Apple Promise of "G5 will ship before end of August" only applies to the US, as usual.

We should have realized that. If Apple want to be taken seriously, they should treat the majority of the World equally.

I can see a day when Apple are going to only be a US niece product only, Apple will have faded anyway totally outside its borders.

In Pather, I wonder how many US only applications / services will be added, whilst the rest of the World pay the same full price (and often more) than the US price.

Ordered my dualie on June 30th. Up until this morning, my order status was set to "Shipping On or Before 8.29." Well now it says shipping in "4 to 6 weeks." Crap. And my local Apple Store doesn't even have any of the new machines....just a "Coming Soon" card in the display window. Nice.

bravo on how you asked us to petition... much better than some of the *requests* on these boards (anyone for a gen 2 ipod with firmware v.2??)

i hope that the 2.0's do start shipping soon, people are getting antsy. i personally don't have any interest other than playing with one at the local compusa. i won't be able to afford one of these babies for another 3.5 or 4 years (tight budget)...

My order is 'open'

Like the old commercial ... "An-ti-ci-pa-a-tion..."

My duallie order is in status "open" and still says shipping "on or before 8/29/2003".

I ordered at the end of June.
 
1.6 in stock @ Apple Store Tysons Corner, VA

I am traveling on business this week in VA and decided to see if the G5 was at the Apple Store in Tysons Corner. There was not only one up front in the spinning display, but a 1.6 I could play with. They had a small number of them for sale. Two had sold that day and I could have purchased one on the spot!

You have to see these machines in person! Impressive! 😀
 
my order still says shipping on or before 8/29... i'm an education customer, and ordered on 6/24, day after they were available... i ordered a BTO dual with the bluetooth. We'll see what happens, but the wait is killing me! I have priority overnight shipping, so i hope to god it gets here saturday, because it's labor day weekend, and i'd have to wait until at least tuesday to get the dual if it's not here saturday...

We feel no pain around here in South America, we are very realistic, we do not expect any G5 before January at list.
 
I stand corrected. My order still has the "On or before the 29th"....I was looking at another order. Sorry. I paid for the overnight shipping, so maybe I'll see it this week or next......
 
Screwed?????

stella - how is Apple "screwing over the rest of the world"???? It makes perfect sense that the country where the product is made will probably have it sooner than countries half way around the world. Look at BMW and Mercedes - new models are on the road in Germany well before they are available here - and it is not related to U.S. or North American "certifications". I ordered my G5 in June several days after WWDC, I live only 3 hours from Apple HQ in Cupertino and 3 hours from the assembly facility in Sacramento - my G5 has yet to arrive. Apple has a huge demand for these new machines and appears to be on track - we have all waited for years for them to move forward from the MOTO MESS and the future looks bright finally - lets give Apple some credit & support.
 
G5 availability

Haddock Computer Center, an Apple Specialist, has the 1.6 and 1.8ghz G5 in stock in Wichita and Oklahoma City.

All indications are that the Dual 2 won't ship until September.

I dont know why you are complaining, because canada is part of north america. When my dad ordered his 17 inch PB, it arrived at the same time as all the others that were ordered the first day, and i to live in canada.
As for europe well i dunno.
PS: my dual 2.0 BTO radeon 9800 is on or before october 15!!!

Given Apple is a US-based company, what do you expect. I also live in Canada and want a G5 as bad as anyone else, but I don't expect Apple to give preference to us or the rest of the world for that matter. They'll ship 'em when they do.

What an extraordinary statement! Of course the US gets all the "goodies" services first! Apple's biggest single market is it's HOME market and they need to sell lots of these machines. Getting them off to other countries must be after the US is well supplied.
And, if you are complaining about lack of features you are paying for (at the price of Apple's OSeS, you really aren't) Apple could NOT put together the Sherlock offerings, for example, for all countries right now... it's not remotely possible. But let's see: iDVD, iPhoto, iMovie... WILL WORK!! and you are paying for these???
iTunes MS will be available worldwide one day when the legal departments of the record companies actually do some useful work for theirartists... that's NOT a given! Apple has served.... we are waiting the return.
BTW, isn't Canada in North America? Hey, it's close enough that you could drop over the border and add a G5 while on the milk/gas run!

Havng played with a 1.6 G in CompUSA yesterday, I can say that it is the most beautifully crafted machine out there. The build and finish have to be seen and touched!

For BrisVegas, I have ordered from Apple in OZ and they assure me that a machine will be in Brisbane when I am there Oct 10 to 18! I ordered a 1.8G. It's BTO in Singapore and as the order is placed is OZ, it's transmitted to Singapore and they build it! takes 4 to 6 weeks and since I ordered it 2 weeks ago they felt confident it would be there!
 
The CompUSA in St. Louis at I-270 and St. Charles Rock Road must have a new G5 display model. I set the dual 1.42Ghz G4 display model to fold, and now recently it has been returning no results. Unfortunately, I am at college now and have now way of checking. Oh well.
