Whats Grab?

Can someone explain the Grab feature in the services menu to me please? What has to be selected in order for it to become active? Almost everytime I view it all of its options are greyed out.

It's a program that allows a variety of different screenshots. I, too, have never had success with the menu options-- but the program in /Applications/Utilities/ works fine for me--

SnapX Pro is another screenshot app that came with my mac. Launch it from Applications or in your Dock, then it is cmd shift 4 to bring up the assorted options. even does movie shots and saves to loads of formats, which if I remember is its main advantage over Grab
