Free microphone recording program?

I just want to try out making cartoons and stuff, but I can't find a free program that records from the microphone. I know Windows has Sound Recorder, but what does OS X have?

I'm not sure if it works with other audio inputs, but it's worth a shot.

Audacity works rather well, it's an open source sound editor...

if you're just looking for an app to record it and not do any editing, AmbrosiaSW makes a nice little utility called WireTap.

...I'm such a dumb ass. I didn't know Audacity recorded.

Now when I opened it up, I saw the record button.
