I am still "pre-switch" so I need some advice. I read a post recently that made the statement "You always buy a Mac with the minimum config...." I am going to order a D2G5 but want to upgrade the video card to the 9800. Is it smarter to take the 9600 configuration and buy a 9800 later from somewhere like macconnections? Will the 9800s be the same (connections, performance..etc)? I just want to make the best decisions. Thanks.

If you want the 9800 I would spec your order to include it rather than the 9600. When people say don't upgrade parts via Apple, that's because it's normally a rip off. They charge way over the norm for memory for example.

edesignuk is right, get the 9800 because the aftermarketcard 9800 is for 2&4 agp machines and will not work in the new powermac g5 due to different design. on the other hand the 9600 is a great deal for 50 more bucks and is a lot better then the fx5200.

Thanks all. I believe that I will get the 9800 installed from Apple as this seems to be the recommended way so far. Thanks again.
