Want the original .qtz file that didn't make it to Leopard? Straight from an older developer build, you can find it here! Installation: Just place the file in your /Library/Compositions folder & enjoy.

Update: Digg It! (Thanks, Wailord).

Admin edit: Sorry guys, I don't think we should be distributing this on MacRumors. It comes from Apple's developer's distribution of Leopard, and for whatever reason Apple intentionally didn't distribute it with the retail version of Leopard. If you still want a hologram iChat effect, see the user created version found here.

Update: Fair enough. It was fun while it lasted :) By the way, I've heard that the user created version above actually looks better than the Apple-created one. Go figure. Check it out, eh?

Thanks for posting it! Out of curiosity though, how do you use it with photobooth?

According to Ice-Cube:
1. Extract Hologram.qtz from the zip file.
2. Place it on your desktop for easy access.
3. Go to photobooth in your applications folder and right click to *Show package contents*
4. Navigate to content>resources
5. Drag the Hologram.qtz file from the desktop to this folder.
6. Locate the file *EffectsOrdering.plist* in this folder
7. Open the file with textedit
8. You should see a number of effects listed in that file. You should see user backdrop 1, user backdrop 2, and so forth in the last paragraph.
9. Replace the words *user backdrop 1* to *Hologram*
It should look like this: <string>/Hologram</string>
10. Save the file. Close all folders.
11. Open up photobooth and enjoy your newfound effect.

Is it running laggy or not?

Slightly, but I've been using it as my primary operating system since I stumbled upon it. I find it humorous that Apple has put the 512mb limit in place; it seems to run fine with half that.

I can't get it to work with the iSight. How do I get Quartz composer to use the isight as an input? I tried to do the photo booth thing, but since I have a iBook G4 it obviously wont work. Help!

Just to prove that it does work:

All I did was add Hologram.qtz to /Library/Compositions and it showed up in Photobooth, didn't have to edit the plist at all.

telekid, do you know if the limitation is in the actual iChat app?? If it is, and your app does not have it, can u please upload it somewhere so people on PPC macs can use it?

I'm not sure which limitation you are talking about. However, I would be happy to upload the file so that you could test it. I'm creating a torrent file as we speak.

This worked for me, too. I followed the step-by-step instructions, and it didn't show up in Photobooth, but adding it to /Library/Compositions/ did the trick.

The limitation is that none of the advanced photoboth effects (backdrops) work on PPC. I think it would be better if you uploaded the photo booth app though..

For some reason I cannot get this to work... and I have followed the instructions multiple times.

Got it! You still need a copy in the library/composition folder. That should work. I made a copy of Photobooth to edit and since leopard's photobooth is photobooth 2 I called it photobooth3! I really want the glass one now :D.

Can do. It should be up in 5...
Update: The .torrent file can be found here.

Is that the edited version? You should like it in your first post.

No, this is an early version of Photo Booth, as requested by a previous user. He was hoping it would solve a PPC issue, and I was happy to give it to him.
