iPod how do i put film files onto my ipod nano

I have come across some films ( robocop,matrix,friday )on my external hard-drive which I forgot where there so I thought I would put them on my ipod to pass the time at work but when I try to import them nothing happens how do I get I tunes to recognise the files and sync to my ipod ?
 
There's really no such thing as "standard" Quicktime anymore. There are several variations thereof. Try opening it in Quicktime then export as an H.264 file at a smaller resolution.
