Basically, I have a UIF file and I need to convert it to ISO... what are my options?

Anything free?

WINE to the rescue...

There are no mac programs that can handle the UIF format as far as I know.

The only FREE way I have figured out how to do it is:

1. Install X11
2. Install Darwine
3. Download MagicISO
4. Open Winehelper (it's in the Darwine folder)
5. Using Winehelper, open the MagicISO installer
6. Install MagicISO
7. Using Winehelper, open MagicISO
8. Under "Tools" Select "Decompress UIF files" Select the UIF file you want to convert and hit "Decompress." It will output as an ISO. You can then use Disk Utility to open or burn the ISO.

Unbelievable! :) I just figured this out, and now that I'm doing a search for one of the dozen threads asking how to do this, I find the one post where someone answers with the exact same procedure I just figured out. Ah, well. BUMP. It was a nice technique.

The one thing that I was getting mixed up about with WinHelper, was that I needed to use the "Configure Wine..." to map drives to any Windows programs I intended to run. It's probably explained in those links, but once I mapped my "Downloads" folder, I could download any PC program I wanted, and run it without the error: "[Program Name] has exited with an error, have a look at the Log window..." or "Unspecified error" if you were silly enough to hide the log output and then generated the error.

Good stuff. Highly cool running Windows software in a pinch without Windows.

Hallo... New here, and new with Macs... may I ask... once I install the MagicISO, where should I install it? it keeps detecting C:\ as a default option... So, the first time I did it, It said it was already installed but....:(

Thanks!

Wine has ~/.wine/drive_c to act as a 'virtual' c drive.

In finder, hit shift + apple + g, and type in "~/.wine" then you can navigate to the directory that contains the MagicIso install.

When I tried to install X11, it said it wasn't possible as a newer version already existed, but I have no recollection of installing X11 before. I searched for the application as well it doesn't seem like it had been installed before???

Any ideas?

Thanks for the answer... I found it!

With the X11 thing, I had the same trouble, and the answer was using the installation cd that came with my computer. Just install it from there.... Don't know exactly why, but it worked... good luck!

Wine problem

i try to install MagicIso, but keep getting this message when i try to open it with darwine:

Application tried to create a window, but no driver could be loaded.
Make sure that your X server is running and that $DISPLAY is set correctly.

Any ideas?

REcap i'm afraid

Hey people, Look I know this problem was months n months ago but I'm having issues with this .Uif file shizzle now.

I have the Uif2iso program, the NEW one; uif2iso4mac which is supposed bypass all that terminal malarky, n i've been thru tha long http://vafer.org/blog/20080124001224 link which is old n irrelevant now since uif2iso4mac...

My last hope is finding out how to "compile it as a 64 bit binary." like 'antibact1' said, becos my file is just over a Gig, but i don't quite know wot that means.

Can some1 help please a bruva out?

My goodness, what a complicated solution has been posted above. Try this:

If you need to work with a UIF file over 2GB, compile it as a 64 bit binary.

You should be fine with anything under 2GB.

Not meaning to hate, but for the love of god please type like an intelligent human being instead of like some 14 year old wannabe gangster-geek hybrid.

Thanks, and have a nice day :D

Try UIF2ISO4Mac by Torsten Curdt.

Version Version 1.1.2 (28.11.2008) works GREAT!

http://vafer.org/projects/uif2iso4mac/

Summary from site:
"You've got a UIF file from a friend and have no clue how to use it on your Mac? No need to go and boot up your old Windows PC (if you still have one). Just drop the file into UIF2ISO for Mac and it will convert it into a standard ISO format. The ISO you can just use with OS X. Open it. Burn it."

It does exactly what it promises! :)
