I know how to change icons but...

So yes, Changing icons is as easy as copy the image, and then Get Info and paste as we all know.

But, I've downloaded some icon files from DeviantArt, and everytime I try to apply them to a folder or an app, instead of showing the icon as the new icon, it shows the PNG icon, or the MAC .ICNS file, instead of the lovely icon I download.

Resolution?

I know about candy bar, but am still awaiting a release on that, anything I can do in the meantime.
