how usefull is a x2 dvd writter?

just wondering how usefull such a slow speed writter is? i mean wouldnt it takes ages to write a couple of gigs with such a writer? or would it better to go for the combo drives and get an external one?
 
2X in DVD terms is far faster than 2X in CD terms. But yes, it is rather slow. Just get the new plextor 8x drive.
